The Mayor of Houston TX has launched an investigation as to why police had somehow managed to make sure 264,000 cases over 8 years were never submitted to investigators!!!!!

Apparently a "secret" code was used drop cases because of lack of personnel !!!! WHAT!!!

Who knows what the motives were like maybe profits, payoffs, protection rackets, etc.

The Houston Police Chief has apologized and pledged to "restore" Public Trust (yeah sure 🤣) !!!

Wonder what victims think ??? 😃

But wait, this is only something like 10% of all cases !!!!

So how could 10% of all cases get "eliminated" for lack of help???? 🤡🤡

This stinks of something like corruption and buyoffs !!!!

Or is this some nutty progressive political agenda ???

How does this affect crime statistics reports !!!!!! 🤣

Houston police chief apologizes after officers drop 264k cases due to lack of staff

Department says hundreds of thousands of incident reports were never submitted for investigation after officers assigned them an internal code that cited a lack of available personnel

Houston’s police chief pledged on Thursday to restore public trust in his department following revelations that more than 264,000 cases, including over 4,000 involving sexual assault, were dropped in the past eight years due to a lack of personnel.

Last month Chief Troy Finner announced that hundreds of thousands of incident reports, including for sexual assaults and property crimes, were never submitted for investigation as officers assigned them an internal code that cited a lack of available personnel. The figure represents about 10% of the 2.8 million incident reports filed in the past eight years.

“I apologize to victims, their families, our citizens, for the use of the code for sexual assault incidents and other violent crimes against persons,” Finner said at a Thursday news conference. “This is not the trauma-informed, victim-centric services they deserve. Again, this code should have never been used and never will be used again.”

Finner's news conference took place a day after Mayor John Whitmire announced that he would appoint an independent panel to review police handling of the dropped cases, saying the public “wants answers and accountability.”

The inflection appears to blame the police officers for the use of the "code."
Who created the code and made it part of the system?
Seriously, the officers got together and created the scheme so they wouldn't be overworked?
Let's look a little higher into the upper levels of the city government for some solid, true answers.

Sounds like their department could use more funds. To be used in securing the proper number of officers. Also, to fund better training for the officers.

And we're all supposed to be anti police reform and pro give them more money to just f-up over and over again.

Then perfect example of hypocrisy of right wingers (cops, law enforcement) being anti crime but yet all these cops (right wingers and blue lives matter people) just let all these criminals back on the streets! Wow!

Then they'll go to the media and blame it on Democrats, while Houston has always had lots of police funding, ranking high in the US.

But a complete system overall will never happen, so this will never end.

It's Liberal D.As and Judges who let them back out. Stop listening to MSNBC and do your own research.

Kim Ogg - Harris County District Attorney

First elected in 2016, Ms. Ogg was part of a wave of Democrats who promised to make the criminal justice system less punitive. She was the first Democrat in decades to hold the job of district attorney in Harris County.

Or work on exposing the graft and payoffs and treasury looting that is preventing proper "funding". 😀

On top of this, Houston has an 8 year backlog on pending cases supposedly due to a shortage of judges.

And the bail reform policies they put in place in 2020 resulted in more than 250 people being murdered by violent criminals out on little or no bail just in 2022.

Houston is a commie run sh!thole.

Houston, Texas is overwhelmingly liberal and completely run by Democrats.

Care to rethink your post?

That's hilarious.

Houston has voted Democratic for the more than a decade and is liberal leaning. Currently, the majority of Houston elected officials are Democrats, and the city's mayors have been Democrats for over 40 years.

Please post a link for your fantasy that all cops are Republican.

Then realize that all of their bosses in Houston are Democrats?

Are you OK?

I was not aware that lack of personnel was a reason to not investigate cases. I'm sure that the more serious ones like the sexual assaults not being investigated were due to some shenanigans like bribes or buddy buddy relationships, etc. When my car got stolen though the cops flat out told me that they would keep on the lookout for it but they weren't going to actually investigate it even though I told them who stole it because they don't have enough cops and it isn't a violent crime. They found it eventually.

But not investigating sexual assaults? Has to be something nefarious going on with that. Especially with sexual assault, rapists and sexual deviants cannot ever be rehabilitated so those people are a real danger to society because they will just keep offending until they're locked up.

The truth of the matter is that Police don't really prevent crime from occurring.

They simply attempt to pick up the pieces afterward via holding someone to account.

And how they accomplish that task is dependent on a variety of factors.

Resources available to them being the most pertinent.

Justice has a price tag.

And that's not just an American concern nether.
