Gov. Gavin Newsom is in hot water after being caught once again showing the people of California that the laws he helps to craft and enforce do not apply to himself and his friends.

We can all remember the maskless parties Newsom organized for himself and his pals when the rest of his state was living under some of the most repressive lockdown measures of the covid times.

Now the California Governor is up to his old tricks again; carving out loopholes for his billionaire donors at the expense of minimum wage workers.

In September Newsom helped craft and than signed into law the Fast Food Accountability and Standards Recovery Act (FAST Act) that will see a $20 minimum wage for all fast food employees later this year... that is unless those fast food employees don't work Panera Bread.

Under the new law Panera Bread franchises, 22 of which owned and operated by Newsom's billionaire friend and donor Greg Flynn, are exempt from the law because they make and sell bread. Apparently employees who make and sell bread aren't in need of a living wadge ... at least not at the expense of Newsom and his billionaire friends.

Panera Bread exempt from California’s $20 minimum wage law after owner donated to Gov. Newsom: report

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law that exempts Panera Bread from a new $20-an-hour minimum wage hike for fast food chains after the billionaire owner of several of the chain’s locations donated to his campaign, according to a report.

In September, Newsom, a Democrat, signed into law a measure that raises the minimum wage of food fast workers from $16 an hour to $20 an hour.

But the Fast Food Accountability and Standards Recovery Act (FAST Act) includes an unusual carve-out that exempts “chains that bake bread and sell it as a standalone item,” according to Bloomberg News.

New York Post

How Panera Bread Ducked California’s New $20 Minimum Wage Law

Billionaire Greg Flynn, who made his fortune running one of the world’s largest restaurant franchise operations, is getting a new boost from sourdough loaves and brioche buns.

That's because a California law that’s about to raise the state minimum wage at fast-food spots to $20 an hour from $16 offers an unusual exemption for chains that bake bread and sell it as a standalone item.

Governor Gavin Newsom pushed for that break, according to people familiar with the matter. Among the main beneficiaries is Flynn, a longtime Newsom donor whose California holdings include two dozen Panera Bread locations.

The scary part is, Democrats will still support him.

They love being treated like serfs.

Just look at Biden. It's not that they don't know he's corrupt as #. They're just okay with it.

Who is going to work there for $4.00 less an hour when they can go somewhere else for more?

Seems like a silly way to shoot yourself in the foot.

Most fast-food places (McDonalds, Jack-in-the-box, etc.) have a no-tip policy because they are considered self-serve.

Places like Panera allow and encourage tips. On discussion boards, you can see that many Panera employees already make about $20/hr when tips are included.

I think this law was intended to bring self-serve fast-food places UP to the income level that Panera is already operating at.

Something tells me there will always be ways to take advantage of someone... even when there is a better situation for them down the road. The key for a billionaire who bribes politicians is to find and hire those people.

A lot of people simply won't know. It's not like this is gonna be widely covered in Democrat media.

That's irrelevant to this thread, but you always deflect from the point when it rightfully condemns another corrupt democrat like Newsome for exempting a company that donated to his campaign from a law which is the same as "pay for play". It's a shining example of it, and of Newsome corruption to help those who give him money for political favors, and he personally gains from it using the power of government to do it.

My friends kids work at Panera and they just got (today) bumped up to $20 and their hours Cut by 8 hours a week...so in the end they make about the same as they did before the bump

Also co-workers kid works at McD's and same happen to him as well

So in the end it's a No win for these kids ......and I don't think Panera should be Exempt ...that's if this is still in play

Of course. That is what we always tell people will happen. And they never wanna listen. Most of these businesses operate on profit margins of just a few percent. They can't just absorb a huge increase in wage costs like magic.

Communists don't understand numbers though. Especially percentages.

Greg Flynn:

Campaign finance data show Flynn donated $100,000 to Newsom's campaign to fight his recall in 2021. In 2022, Flynn donated $64,800 to Newsom's reelection campaign.

I wonder what $400,000 gets you.

They're in love with things they find physically attractive. And they LOVE his hair. To be fair, he DOES have nice hair, and.....teeth. Heck, he'd make a great POTUS.

Gavin Newsom says Panera not exempt from California minimum wage law

Alex Stack, a spokesperson for Newsom, told the AP that the “story is absurd” and that the governor’s legal team believes Panera Bread is not exempt from the law.

To be exempt from the minimum wage law under the bakery exemption, restaurants must produce bread on-site. Newsom’s office said chain bakeries such as Panera mix dough at an off-site location and ship it to the restaurant to be baked.

A spokesperson for Newsom says Newsom isn't corrupt! News at 11.

But it is a good think for Greg Flynn that it would not be Newsom's legal team who would hear a case against him if anyone ever tried to sue him for wadge theft.
