A Florida jury on Thursday recommended Nikolas Cruz—the gunman who killed 17 students and teachers in the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole...

Parkland Verdict - No Death Penalty.

Travesty of Justice? You bet.

I would say it's 'unbelievable' but these days nothing much is.

Cruz, a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, walked into the school on Feb. 14, 2018, with a semi-automatic military-style AR-15 rifle, with which he opened fire on his former classmates. He confessed to the murder when police officers confronted him later that day.

Are we going to rehabilitate him and release him into the public? No? Ohhh but youre going to waste our tax dollars...

He didn't stop to think about how killing someone was robbing them of their life...

yet he gets to exist.

Ah, the sensible lot coming out to plead for either killing someone or hoping he gets raped repeatedly.

How about we shift topics to the areas of, idk, reform of mental health in our country to avoid situations like this again?

Or are topics like that, and not based on violence the wrong sort for this crowd?

Violence?

Like shooting lots of unarmed innocent youngsters?

Comes at a price.

They were just saying he's going to get general pop.

BUT - he'll be in general population with others 'of his kind'...

Only way he gets solitary is if he's a risk to himself or others...

I doubt he'll be treated well.

That said - he's already been getting PHONE CALLS and letters from those who profess to 'love' him (and probably letters of the kind you described)...

peace

Goes to show how we place value.

Murder kids? Fine, you'll get room, board and forgotten about.

Interviews, books, etc all go to stock your commissary.

Forgive my lack of knowledge but how come the jury decide the sentence in such a case?

I assumed a jury decided gulit of crime and the judge passed sentence based on the severity of the crime, which in this case the death penalty would be considered just due to the vile and abhorent nature of some of the murders that took place, he deserves worse than death in the minds of most rational humans.

Based on guilt now being established can the sentence be appealed?

On the plus side, Florida law does not allow convicts to profit off their crimes -- i.e., books, interviews, movies, etc.

I've been looking at the law in Florida, and apparently the jury offers a recommendation to the court, but the final decision is up to the court.

Supreme Court rules juries must determine death sentences in Florida

However, if the jury does recommend the death penalty, it must be the jury must be unanimous, and I believe the judge can still give a lesser sentence.

New Florida Law Requires Unanimous Jury to Impose Death Sentence

I may be reading all this wrong, but this is what I'm finding.

Not addressing the root issue comes at a price. Those innocent had to pay it. You can look the other way all you want but it's obvious something is wrong... No other civilized natio has this ratio of mass shootings.
Being one of the few civilized nations still doing death sentence should also tell you it doesn't work.

I think that's what iconic was trying to convey.
As you seem to like the low hanging fruits it prolly flew right over your head.

Carry on....
