My guess is, that It would probably be some sort of Big Crunch event that results in a grand scale reversal.

I'm visualizing some sort of multi universal Mobius strip.

In mathematics, a Möbius strip, Möbius band, or Möbius loop is a surface that can be formed by attaching the ends of a strip of paper together with a half-twist.

Imagine both universes are printed on opposite sides of that piece of paper, each side of the paper holds a different "charge" which directs the flow of time.

After a while the "polarity" flips and the universes change directions.

This is all just theory mind you...
