I am putting this in Breaking Political News... Because I am not sure what authority a politician has to do what is happening here:

Insurance companies will be required to cover eight over-the-counter at-home coronavirus tests per person each month starting Saturday, the Biden administration said, expanding access to highly sought-after kits as Americans grapple with a surge in coronavirus cases.

The White House also said on Monday that there is no limit to the number of COVID-19 tests, including at-home tests, that insurers must cover if they are ordered or administered by a health care provider.

Reuters

Anyone know what authority Biden has to make an insurance company cover something.... just because he says so?

I could see it happening if Congress passed a law requiring it.
Seems dictatorial to me.

Hmmm....
Executive order that makes insurance cover testing?
Interesting

Didn't know the president had that authority.

i certainly don't know about the legitimacy of doing this. but i highly suspect that if it goes through, people will see their health insurance rates jump because of it.

By the time he's called out and taken sued, the damage will already be done.

Its this administrations MO.

I also find it suspect that Psaki said that you can order them "online."

Insurance, big tech and of course big pharma....all attached at the hip to our us govt.

RIP

Here's an interesting little snippet from the Reuters article.

It was not immediately clear what incentives were offered to insurers to agree to the plan. The Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

So, insurers need to agree to the plan.

I'm literally shaking my head and laughing out loud...

If Biden wants to be a popular authoritarian, he should force gas stations to cover my gasoline purchases... with no limits.
All he has to do is say it to make it so, apparently.

Regulation.
That would be the one word job description of gov.

What? Is there an ongoing crisis that depends on you having gas in your car?

From the article, 'It is not immediately clear' that incentives were even offered, or that the insurers agreed or that the insurers even had the option to agree.
HHS did not respond.
Keep laughing while the senile dictator is taking his baby steps.

Yep. My car won't go without gas in it.
I did not have to lock down because my being at my job was deemed necessary, so my getting to work is super duper important.

YOU will be required to pay for every one else's covid test
through higher premiums
and health insurance companies knew about this during the annual enrollment period and has already adjusted your premiums to pay for it.

Yes, for those of us that actually pay for our health insurance.

yea all these extra costs will just be added to the monthly premium , these insurance companies are just private businesses who have to make profit.

A close relative works on the finance department for a big health insurance company in my country , hear quite a few stories about money miss-managment that make you raise your eyebrows.

They failed to force you to buy health insurance previously.
They continue the march towards the nanny state.
