Governor of AZ Extends Executive Orders - Will There be Another Nationwide Lockdown?

In my state (AZ), our governor Dushy, just quietly extended the closure of schools, bars, gyms, water parks and movie theaters — for another two weeks. To be reassessed every two weeks thereafter.

I’m not buying it. They are going to keep us shut down indefinitely.

I’m friends with the owners of the two most popular bars in town. It’s appearing that they will not survive this mess. What will they do?

Here is the response from Dushy’s lawyers, to my friend the bar owner on why he is ORDERED to stay closed:

Bars present a uniquely high-risk environment for the transmission of COVID-19. They are “social setting[s] where groups [of young people] typically convene, and at times mix with other groups.” They are “often cramped indoor spaces with poor ventilation” and “unlike restaurants that can space tables apart, bars often have fixed bar stool seating.” Loud music or ambient noise can exacerbate the risk because it forces to persons to talk louder or closer to one another. Drinking is not compatible with mask wearing. Moreover, “alcohol consumption slows brain activity, reduces inhibition, and impairs judgment,” which increases the likelihood that precautionary measures will not be followed. Also, “dancing is a common activity at many bars” and can result in “heavier breathing than is normal and increase[d] respiratory droplet secretions.” “This coupled with a warm indoor environment, limited ventilation, and turbulent airflow patterns results in an environment where the respiratory droplets are more easily spread.”

Some of these points raised by the Governor and his Lawyers are laughable but this is the Scientific Evidence they are making as to why Bars are a uniquely high risk. All of these concerns can be mitigated and pretty much resolved IF the Governor and his team of people applied themselves and worked with us Bars to make the changes necessary to make us 'Safe'. The Governor, Arizona Department of Health, Arizona Chamber of Commerce and The Arizona Board of Regents who provide over-site to ASU, NAU and UA all agree and they all believe Bars should remain closed.

WTF are us Bar Owners meant to do?? Restaurants (over 4,000 of them are licensed to sell alcohol), Breweries, Wineries, Golf Resorts, Hotels, Casino's, Distilleries etc can stay open but an estimated 1,200 Bars have remain closed, indefinitely. All that is happening is that Bar Customers are just drinking at all these other places that serve alcohol. Bars are going out of business and our 10,000 plus Employees are losing their jobs. Through Executive Order 2020-43 made on June 29, 2020 Bars also have to Attest to Health requirements set by Arizona Department of Health. These requirements are not even available yet. The CDC categorizes Restaurants and Bars together and the CDC has Health Standards that BOTH Restaurants and Bars should follow, but the Governor ignores this???

Yup, we the masses are just soooo stupid. So TPTB can just make all our decisions for us! YAY!!! I feel so much safer now!

I’ve seen many posters in the last few weeks, state that they believe another nationwide lockdown is imminent. Please elaborate on why you think this is going to happen? I’m personally, beginning to believe the hype.

The deeper we get into this, the more I believe there is no light at the end of the tunnel. A few more years to prepare would be nice. Guess we don’t get that luxury.

Side note: My governor is a republican. So let’s not make this about partisan politics. This has gone past the elections.

I guess a 99.85% survival rate is just not safe enough for every state.

If Walmart was forced to close I would say it's a quiet war against China. But since almost everything there is made in China I guess we ain't there yet.

I imagine if people wore masks when applicable, this might not be happening. It's up to everyone.. how this plays out. Since many will not bear it..well, enjoy your lockdown.

It's just my opinion, not interested in debating effectiveness.

Be prepared for your ‘easing restrictions’ to reverse course. That’s exactly what happened to us.

I wish the governors would just be honest. Maybe a statement like this: “When you’re in a position of power, it’s just too tempting to abuse said power. Sorry, it’s the way of the world”.

I think another shutdown is imminent. I’m in Broward county, one of the hotter spots in Florida and there’s rumblings all over about another shut down. Some of our tenants here at work are state/county agencies and some of them have mentioned it’s brewing in the city building. More than that, they’re likely to be more strict than the first lockdown.

Things weren’t enforced all that hard the first time down here. The only privately owned businesses I saw shut down were yoga studios and gyms. Bike shops, smoke/vape shops, clothing stores all stayed open. The smoke shop I go to regularly said they would stay open until a county official came in and shut them down.

At this point, the jury is out for me. I’ve read so much information from every direction on this and I don’t feel any smarter as a result. I’m a musician who is good at fixing things and I can read people pretty well, outside of that, I’m practically useless. I’ve given up trying to understand the scientific side of all of this. You can spend all day reading “facts” just to turn around and read one article that disseminates everything you read prior. I’m just going to keep my guard up, do what I can to keep myself and my wife safe and let it all play out. Done arguing, done debating, done researching.

People have been adhering to the mask requirements. Everyone is wearing them in confined spaces.

That’s if you even see people in public. The supposedly most ‘hard hit’ areas, Scottsdale and Phoenix — are ghost towns.

Yes we said that once we gave up our freedoms and liberties and submited to mandates, that we are not getting them back.

Hmm, if you say so, you are there. I just hear constant wimpering, and refusals here on ATS..hell, I have not been super vigilant about it,being moreso now.. but we are only getting 20-30 cases a day. I did wear one for 9 hours on sat, blazingly hot out, but it was doable.

I have also been hearing that the final push to take way all freedoms might be going after gun owners and 2nd amendment people.

Justification might be that there might be some mass shotting at a protest or some thing. and in the interest of "safety" nobody but the state shall own guns.

Noticed that the bar owner’s response letter failed completely to offer any suggestions their establishments could effect to mitigate the concerns expressed by the Governor’s lawyers.

No mention of limiting the number of customers allowed in their bars at any one time, no mention of eliminating live or recorded music, or prohibiting dancing in their establishments, no mention of putting strict limitations on the amount of alcohol that may be served to individuals to reduce the likelihood of irresponsibility.

Your friends chose to run a bar, as opposed to a restaurant or winery; that choice came with certain known, and as circumstances have proven, unknown responsibilities.

Freedom comes with responsibilities.

You can bet on this happening. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

Government says we can re-open if we agree to abide to rules set by AZ Health Department but they say they cannot gets these rules ready until July 28, the day after Gov allows us to re-open. No joke.

1200 bars have been affected in AZ alone. Why would the governor listen to this one small bar owners suggestions? Especially considering THEY are supposed to be supplying the bar owners with the health and safety guidelines.

Your statements about the risks of owning a bar are ridiculous. Who would have ever thought that governments would dictate small businesses ability to stay open.

There is no addendum to our constitution stating: “all this is null and void in the event of a pandemic”.
