right in front of me. I was sitting outside when I see this rock slam into the dirt. Its possible that a bird dropped it from the sky but that's not the reason why I am posting this on here. The rock looks strange and not like any rock i've seen before. What could this be?

I vote for it being a piece of space junk, like from a satellite or a rocket launch.
It looks metallic.

It does indeed seem to have the surface characteristics of a meteorite.

But that does not mean it should be hot. It's a long fall.

Very interesting, it may well be a meteorite, it would be interesting to have it looked at by a geologist. It's surface reminds be of old iron I find on my farm.

Also, it's a good thing you weren't sitting a couple feet forward ya know?

Oh yeah, he needs to have it appraised if he can find a qualified person. Of course, it's small, but still it's beautiful.

OP, look around on the net and see what other similar ones sell for.

I'm gonna agree with everyone else, in that I think it looks meteoric. I'd take it to a university or something (if there's one near you) and get it looked at. Nice find!

OP: Im a mine Engineer. I have a bunch of Geo's at my bidding.
Surprisingly there are none available at this second - All in an exploration meeting - But as soon as its over i can have my buddy look at your pics. Hes worked in every corner of this planet. Has a PhD in geology and has practised for 30 years.
If your interested in hearing his opinion:
Is it possible to take a couple more real close ups of the rock and email them to me? If available even with the use of a magnifying glass to see the grain size?

Is it iron?

Have you tested it with a magnet?

That may tell you something about it at least.

Nice find. If that is indeed a Meterorite, Mama could very well be close behind.

But lets not jump to that conclusion just yet.

I just tested it now. The rock started to move when the magnet got close
