A pig was once held in trial for the death of a child.

During the Middle Ages, it was normal for animals to be tried for human crimes. In 1386, a pig was even arrested for injuring a child. When the child died, the pig was placed in trial which ruled the pig’s public execution.

To write out the Lord of The Rings Trilogy, you would need to open almost 8,800 cans of SpaghettiO's Alphabet soup.

Each can of SpaghettiOs is about 37% the letter O, with the rest split pretty evenly among the other 25 letters in the alphabet. Though he breezes through this part of the calculation, apparently J.R.R. Tolkien’s trilogy has 2,261,081 letters in it. The most common letter is E, making it the limiting factor. In order to get all 281,428 E’s needed, you’d have to open 8,795 cans of SpaghettiOs. And you’d also waste a lot of food, with 8,134,609 letters leftover.

Hershey’s Kisses were named that after the kissing sound the chocolate makes on the conveyor belt.

Before discovering this fun fact, I thought Kisses were named after the shape your mouth makes when you place the chocolate on your lips, tip-first. However, Hershey’s are actually named for the sound it makes during the manufacturing process. A machine squirts the chocolate mixture onto the conveyor with a “kiss” sound. Another Hershey’s fun fact? The paper-strip plume on top of Hershey’s Kisses are trademarked.

The sound of the automatic doors opening on the U.S.S. Enterprise is made by a toilet.

One of the fun facts about the rich world of Star Trek is the story behind the U.S.S. Enterprise’s doors: The distinct sound is actually the sound of a Russian train’s toilet flushing.

In 1981, a California doctor worked over 24 hours straight to save the life of a 3.2 pound premature baby boy. Exactly 30 years later to the day, that baby (who grew up to be a paramedic/fireman) saved the life of the same doctor when a semi-truck hit his car.

High heels were originally worn by men.

In the 10th century, men in Europe adopted the now-gendered fashion choice of heels to make it easier to ride their horses: Adding heels to their boots made it easier to stay in their stirrups. "The Persian cavalry wore inch-high heels, and the trend spread to Europe. Since they showed that the wearer owned and maintained horses, high heels became associated with the upper class."

The stomach acid of a vulture is so highly acidic it kills rabies virus and most bacteria, which is why they can eat dead disgusting rotting things.

Squid brains are doughnut shaped, and their esophagus runs through it. If a squid eats something too big it can get brain damage.
