Where I'm from they were/are called Brownies.

In second grade, pre-girl scouts were called brownies.
We had little brown uniforms and a little brown hat.
I was a brownie.
I tried girl scouts but didn't like it.

How so?

What about school?

If there were serious issues regarding both sexes interacting classroom time would be chaos.

Same with intervals where they are less supervised.

Sounds FASCIST! Brigade!! Just teasing.

Seriously though, I don't know if 'brigade' would make it now.
Someone would want to rename it. Sounds military.

Its was a bit. LoL

More like a Christian faith thingamabob thing through the Church.

They are still around, although I'm not sure as to any Brigades in my area any longer.

This was back in the early 80s.

Edit: The Mrs has just informed me they still hold the "Brownies" at the church.

They had girl guides, which just turned into Guides or guiding... just like boy scouts turned into scouts Canada, or just scouts, or scouting.

It really isn't that big of a deal.

not really. Canada is quite backwards as it is, so this is par for the course. In non clown world, we had Cub Scouts, Boy scouts, and girsl scouts. Amazingly enough, those who could stand up to pee went to the boy group and those who had to sit down, went to the girl scouts. It worked so well, it lasted for many years just like that.

LoL

That was not bad.

I had to Google "Soi Boi" all the same.

Soy boy is a pejorative term sometimes used in online communities to describe men perceived to be lacking masculine characteristics. The term bears many similarities and has been compared to the slang terms cuck, nu-male and low-T – terms sometimes used as insults for male femininity by online communities.

But in the process learned the term "pejorative".

It's the same system all over north America. And girls have been getting into the boy scout group for decades now.
Times change grandpa, you don't need to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian on every topic that isn't overly in favor of what the 1950s America looked like.

Scouting used to be a military youth indoctrination program, it's now just a youth group geared towards community building, personal responsibilities, bonding and out door survival.

If parents don't want their daughters going into girl scouts or girl guides they can choose the other option.

From what I have read, they are going to still be separated into girl and boy Troups and Packs, packs being for the younger ones for those that have never been invilved. I don't know how they are going to handle the trans.

The problem with girl scouts from what I understand is they did not go into the camping and outdoors stuff like the Boys Scouts. Some girls wanted that.

The Explorer Posts of Boy Scouts were mixed for years but they were more carear oriented than camping and for older teens.

An old institution of training for youths that we see little of these decades as a screen of one size or another rules today's children. I'm happy to report that one of my son-in-laws, a Boy Scout well into his high school days, went on to become a police officer, a Marine helicopter pilot and eventually a full, Marine colonel.

Boy Scouts is based on the military and was started in England.

They were founded in Great Britain in 1908 by a cavalry officer, and in 1910 in the USA apparently.

Yes, I believe it started with a girl in an area that had no Girl Scout group.

Been awhile. Can’t remember if there was a lawsuit.

Let’s see how inclusive they are when an atheist wants to join.

So far, it’s been a flat NO.

However, statistically for the first time “Nones” have beat out “believers”.

Anybody can join in the UK no matter their beliefs by the looks of it.

When i was a lad i seem to recall us all saying the lord's prayer for some reason.

Same with school each morning i suppose.

Scouts is open to people of all faiths and of none. We’ve different variations of our Promise, so everyone can make a Promise that means something to them, no matter their background or belief.

The UK scouts even have a atheist version of scout promise.

The American scouts should try joining this century.

It wasn't made for atheists.
It was made for boys who believe in God to get together and do fun things.
Atheists are free to make a similar type group for their atheist kids.
No one is stopping them.

Boy Scout Pledge - On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
