Higgs Boson Discovery Rumor is FALSE

Higgs boson discovery rumours false, say Tevatron scientists

Rumours that the Higgs boson - sometimes called the 'God particle' - has been detected by the Tevatron particle accelerator have been denied.

A spokesman for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory told the Telegraph: "The rumour of evidence for the Higgs boson is just that: a rumour, with no factual basis. "Beyond that, we don't comment on rumours."

Earlier, the laboratory's Twitter feed said: "Let's settle this: the rumors spread by one fame-seeking blogger are just rumors. That's it." The rumours had been flying around the internet since a physicist and blogger, Tommaso Dorigo of the University of Padua, said that in a blog post that he had heard "two different, possibly independent sources" claiming that an experiment at the Tevatron had found convincing evidence for the existence of the Higgs boson.

However, a second spokesman for Fermilab said: "Tommaso Dorigo's blog is not a reliable source and is in no way supported by us.

See what happens? Michio Kaku steps out of his field to try to explain oil drilling science to the masses, and as soon as he's out the door, some wiseguy starts these ridiculous rumors.

S+F, i'm glad someones finally speaking out against this. The Physicist involved is well known for several misinformed Blogs over the years claiming findings which later turned out to be inconclusive.
The Collider involved was due to be shut down at the end of the year, with the scientists involved giving it only a 50/50 chance of it bringing anything worthy out that could be analysed before closure.
Perhaps this was a last-ditch attempt to save the project from being turned over to CERN, especially as the findings of this "Particle" according to the Blog aren't due to be released until a meeting at the end of this month, so they don't even know what they've found (if anything) anyway.

I read that blog yesterday and it was like watching Obama's campaign. Great selection of words but little to no tangible evidence of anything being said.

For me the scary part if the discovery of dark matter, in the earth's core, shortly after they turned on and tested the collider.

Synchronicity proves there are no coincedences in life.

As I've often observed, there's nothing particularly inviolate or noble about the Scientific community — science is just as full of zealots and gossips and hacks and charlatans as any religion.

This is just one more case of a "scientist" posting unsubstantiated claptrap, attempting to draw the limelight to his obscure little corner of perdition. Gee, where have I heard that story before? Oh, yeah... The convoluted series of erroneous claims about anthropogenic global warming.

Heh.

Or the Korean geneticist claims of cloning that damned dog — the dog itself was kind of forgotten in the whirlwind of bullcrap his lab tried to pass off as science.

Then there was the Sokal Affair... An "intentional" journalistic hoax by a reputable physicist. And let's not forget Jan Hendrik Schön, who perpetrated the greatest fraud on the Physics community in half a century.

Yeah, Science is no sacred ground for truth and honor.

Scientists say Dark Energy May Not Actually Exist

Scientists Say Dark Energy May Not Actually Exist

The concept of dark energy was created by cosmologists to fit Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity into reality after modern space telescopes discovered that the Universe was not behaving as it should.

According to Einstein's work, the speed at which the Universe is expanding following the Big Bang should be slower than it actually is and this unexplained anomaly threatened to turn the whole theory upside down. In order to reconcile this problem the concept of dark energy was invented.

But now Blake Temple and Joel Smoller, mathematicians at the University of California and the University of Michigan, believe they have come up with a whole new set of calculations that allow for all the sums to add up without the need for this controversial substance.

Any other Scientific fallacies you need shot down?

Yeah but you left out the part where they assumed the Earth was at the center of the universe, a concept that was abandoned long ago.

If there are 200 billion galaxies in the observable universe, I would say the odds our galaxy happens to be the one at the center are something like 200 billion to one, is that about right?

Wouldn't you have a better chance of winning a 100 million to 1 lottery? A 2000 times better chance?

I doubt they will ever find it they are trying so hard to make the universe fit their model, not the other way round.
I was rather hoping the 'higgs field' turned out to be the aether

Dark matter & dark energy should be interchangeable, since the 'unknown' energy exists, but not in our 4D universe.
Like when they describe electric charge Q being related to the surface area of an electron, fine if it's a round, 'solid' particle-we now know it's actually more like a cloud.
So what's the formula for the area of a cloud?
Needless to say, such a fundamental error would be too big to admit, so they will keep coming up with yet more theories to glue on to the existing ones, eventually they will get stuck & will have to start again.
"We couldn't find the Higgs, but we are certain we can find the Zogg particle, which will explain everything, could we have another 100 trillion?"

So, because science doesn't have all the answers it's worthless? The way science works is data is gathered, then from this data a theory is created to explain the data. That's what happened with dark matter/energy. The theories of relativity have stood up time and again, so clearly something is missing from the data. Also, you can't fault science for a scientist posting something on his blog. Last time I checked blogs didn't carry the same weight as a scientific journal. So, it's not like his words are the end all be all and that when he lied science as a whole lied.

Yet, the fact is that every model of the Universe — even the most modern — STILL WORKS with the Earth at the center. There's nothing about our physical laws to prevent it from happening.

A thousand years from now, unless our Scientific progress is interrupted by extinction, the scientists of the future will chuckle about our modern understanding of Nature and physical law: "Can you believe that Mankind once thought we lived on a planet within a galaxy within a vast Universe? They had no idea that we are simply avatars from another dimension exploring the integrity of this experimental construct."

So, the ancients may still be correct. It's all a matter of perspective.
