Damn, now I'm pissed. I tried to post this before. I will try to make it as much like the original as possible.

Well, here's the deal. I think that vampires exist. There's no other way to explain a myth for them in nearly EVERY SINGLE CULTURE ON THE PLANET. I kid you not- they are everywhere from Africa to Greece to Japan. Some, perhaps are based upon the legendary butchers - Vlad the Impaler and Elizabeth Bathory, for example- and fortified by literature (oh Bram Stoker, how I both love and hate thee) . However, it is my belief that they do exist. here are four theories postulating the nature of their existence:

A) "He's infected, Jim! KILL HIM!"

Yes, now that everyone's flashbacks to 28 Days Later are done, here is the first and most credible fo the theories- a virus. Viri operate by altering the DNA makeup of a host cell so that it creates little clones of the virus, or so I've been told. Well, imagien a virus that not only does that, but also alters the DNA of the perosn that they become vampires. They become strogner, faster, and able to metabolize one thing- blood. It should be noted here that a normal person is incapable of digesting or metabolizing blood. It makes them ill, and at best you can hope for absorbing some of the water from it. This seems to eb by far the msot credible theory, but there is a lot of back and forth about it from 'vampyres' - those who wish to emulate the vampiric unlife- and the scientists who haven't been able to find a personw ith this virus and us, the conspiracy theorists.

B) Different Race, Different Time

Yes, the second and slightly more obvious soultion is that vampires aren't human- they're a different species shaped like us. Okay, fair enough. Problem- whenever there was an autopsy, why didn't the surgeon go "Gee, that isn't supposed to be there?"

Two possibilities: One is that vampires self destruct upon death, the idea being that there is no longer a corpse to boggle at. the second that is as powerful beings, they would make excellent power players and mercenaries for the Silent War that has been raging between various secret societies and such. It would be in the best interests to keep their existence hidden, neh?

C) Psionic possesion!

This is just crap. I read a theory on it, and couldn't make heads or tails of it. Believe it if you want, but I'm not going to. Hell, I won't even bother trying to explain it. If anyone wants to reply to this and do so, knock yourself out.

D) 'Religious' explination

Apparently, Caine was cursed by god jsut before he left for the Land of Nod. Here is the White Wolf rendition, quoted from the Book of Nod:
members.tripod.com...

And now, for something completely different I will retell a story I once heard.

"One day, God was feeling a triffle prankish. He summoned the two boys called Caine and Able. To them he said 'Go get me a sacrifice.' So, they rushed off.

Caine brought grain, the good stuff that he and Able lived off of msot fo the year. He burnt it, saying, 'Hey God! This stuff keeps me alive. Enjoy!' Able, being the ever so clever suckup, killed some sheep and said 'Here's somethign better, Lord: blood.'

And God came upon them, and said, "Nice work, Able. For this grand sacrifice, I will tell you a secret. The ...oh my."

While God had been rambling on, Caine had stuck up on Able, braining him with a shovel and sending his body into the fires. 'Here, God. I one upped him. Have Able's blood.'

So God said, 'That wasnt' very nice. However, here's the secret- blood is the key to power.' With that, Caine was transformed into a vampire and set loose into the world."

Yes. So, now we must evaluate things. If vampires are real, then what else might be? Dopplegangers, perhaps? Now, I want opinions, people. This took me two hours to do, and I managed to piss off both my roomate and his ex (attractive female previously mentioned).

'blood lust'? Depends where you go. But yes, The Thirst will be enough to classify someone as a vampire.

i read something from a book about a disease called porphyria. There was a for of it called CEP that had some vampire like symptoms, such as a need for blood and sensitivity to light.

That story you told at the end really confused me.

But the virus suggestion is a good and credible one, i don't know about the self destruction upon seath thing...

Ah yes, I do realize the story was a little confusing. It was a rendition of the white wolf games version of the parable of Caine adn Able from teh bible. Just thought it was interesting, so I put it up.

Sure, Vampires exist/ become real, or whatever-

blood vampires
energy vampires
life force vampires
money vampires

actually, if anythings of value, to any one or group of people....there will be predators &/or vampires, lurking around to seize the valuable item= from the unawares/ or the unprotected/ the weak or the frail/ the trusting/ the gullible/**mr Burns, of Simpsons fame, is an animated 'vampire' character...agreed?**

sure, there are doppelgangers also...in fact I conjured one up so as to confuse and confound...thereby giving the original 'me' lots of options for survival:

a lot of youse guys, have a natural occuring double, how many times have you been 'seen' other places?
by acquaintences that swear you were [driving] or [something] with [girl/woman]...you know the spiel...

oh...that ' _ _ _tripod. com/ '.... url you gave, gave me FITS!!!....IT is Vampire-ish!!!

Dracula and Jesus were sitting together watching TV. Jesus turns to Drac and asks, "what's the big deal, why are you so afraid of crosses?"

"What, don't they give YOU the creeps, too?"

I believe in vampires, but I doubt they look like we think they do. Nothing ever does.

I would figure they look JUST LIKE US...which is why they survived and thrived so long. The different is almost always hunted down and persecuted...

Vampires aren't real in the sense of traditional vampires. If you are a traditional vampire and are out there, I challenge you, here and now, to prove me wrong with a personal visit. If you wanna know where I am and where I'm going to be, post here or U2U me. Prove me wrong!

For an interesting slant on the vampire mythology try a series of books by Brian Lumbley called the Necroscope series. These are fantasy/fiction books but good nonetheless.

I heartily recommend them.

I believe that vampires may be out there. The virus theory sounds really good. However, I don't really believe the self-destruct upon death theory.

*shrug* Just an angle. I don't seem to able to find any other explination of why there haven't been any vampiric corpses recovered.

whatever. I've seen pics of skulls that have been dug up, with vampire like teeth. I'm talking 2 really really long canines from the top teeth.
