apocolypse in 2012

Has any one heard on the new and read in the paper and seen on t.v. that there is suppose to be major crap going down with earth in 2012??
Like on the news a few months ago it said NASA descoverd a commet that is on a dirrect path for earth and will reach it by 2012. they said it won't hit us but they did say their COULD BE a change.. and i heard in papers that scinetist are preparing for many

Everywhere I look, all I see is the year 2012. This date is in the books I read, the internet.

Many think that it will be a sort of shift in human beings' consciousness.

Five years ago, the Apocalypse was going to happen in 1999. People just *KNEW* the world would end then. Nostradamus said something about it... and how could Nosty be wrong?

Then it was going to end in 2000.

Then in 2002, when Planet X came swooping in.

We're still here.

Other notable "Yes, the Apocalypse is happening on this date and (various Ascended Masters, Catholic Saints, etc) have predicted it) were 1999, 1987... and so on and so forth back throughout history.

2012 will come and go and some of us will be older, but that's about all that will happen.

The world could end at any time for any number of reasons. From cosmic events to nuclear war sparked by an accident.

If an end-of-world event ever occurs it will just be dump luck that someone actualy got the date right. (And just guessing a year gives you a whole 365 days to hit the mark).

2012 stared with the damn incan (or was it aztec?) calander cycling out to that point. Of course this is assuming we read thier translate thier calander ro a gregorian one correctly AND they didn't end it there just cause making a longer one was pointless untill they needed to.

Here are some thing for you to worry about though in the mean time.

Planetary collisions.
Drop in Universe Vacuum State.
Exploding cosmic bodies nearby (black holes, quasars, take your pick)
The Earths structure collapsing due to an odd gravitational pull.
Giant Space Ants
Nuclear War
Biological War
Plague
The loss of reproduction due to our failing Male (Y) chromosomes
Tigers (Grrrrr)
Science Experiments that alter reality in a bad way
The NWO
America
Muggers
Car Accidents
Plane Crashes (even if you don't fly they can still fall on you)
Tidal Waves (especial if you are within 500 miles of atlantic ocean coast line)
Avalanches
Massive Global Earth Quakes
The moon leaving
Indians doing your job better and for less money than you
A poodle with a knife

Yes there has been a lot of talking about this 2012, especially here on ATS.

dont forget in the year 1000 ad people were going nuts thinking the world would end then but hey look.....its been 1004 years since then.........

Yes well Byrd has closed her eyes for more things concerning PlanetX. And 2012 is based upon two mayor civilisations, the Mayans and Egyptians.

Next to this it isn't the end of the world, but a transformation of the conscienceness of menkind. For the ones who read the Bible, Satan comes from hell after 1,000 years again. 2012 is just the beginning.

No Apocalypse then, the Apocalypse will then happen at a later time.

Mayans only. Egyptians didn't say anything about 2012. And it's simply that the long count cycle ended. The actual Mayan writings don't say anything about what happens then.

I believe you're getting some of the verses mixed up. You're referring to the book of Revelation, and the (supposed) reign of Satan. However, if you read the Bible, you'll see (Revelation 20: 1-17) that Jesus is supposed to come to earth, chain up Satan, rule for a thousand years. and then get locked up forever after that thousand years.

No Apocalypse then, the Apocalypse will then happen at a later time.

Given that there's been no Apocalypse and the returning rule of Jesus for a thousand years (as is predicted in the Bible) I think you're rushing the scenario.

But.... you'll find that these frequent Global Consciousness Raising Events (let's see... the last two were supposed to be planetary alignment ones and the one this summer is tied in with a Venus transit of the sun) are somewhat overrated. And after a few dozen yars of watching them, you'll find yourself less impressed with the predictions.

Sudden change of mind? Are you thinking about a change of the brains in 2012 or something?

Did ANYONE ever think that the Mayans just didn't feel the need to continue the calendar after 2012? I mean, they did make the calendar hundreds and hundreds of years ago - and today they only exist by their so called descendants (which I doubt have any true mayan blood in their bodies, if they do, it is only in trace DNA). The Windows XP calendar only goes up to 2099, oh crap, maybe the world will end in 2099! Honestly though, people update the length of the calendars when they need to. I'm sure the Microsoft Windows of 2099 (hopefully they won't last that long) will have a calendar up to 2199.

religious figures always say end of time as it is a time when the earth ends or we all die or something.

I think it is something completly different but will be the end of power for the religious groups. maybe because everything they said then will be proven wrong or something completly mind alterning event.

for those groups it would be devistating. And thats why they say end of time.

we will life and go on to life but in a way we now can not imagion. maybe because aliens came as some predict but we wil see.

I did some research on this recently due to a Usenet discussion, and these were the conclusions I reached:

1. Archaeologists have evidence that the Mayan calendar does not actually end on that date, but that it goes on for another 50 centuries.

2. December 23, 2012 is the end of the current 400-year cycle, known to the Maya as a bak'tun. Considering that a king was expected to give blood sacrifice at the ending of a 20-year cycle (and/or sacrifice a captive lord), one wonders what kind of sacrifice was required at the start of a new bak'tun! Perhaps nothing less than the life of a
king?

3. December 23, 2012 is a close conjunction of the Winter Solstice sun with the crossing point of the ecliptic and the Milky Way's equator. The Maya called this "the Sacred Tree". One expert (John Major Jenkins) claims that
the closest conjunction actually happened a few years ago, but the Maya would put great significance in the fact that a bak'tun would be ending and beginning when our solar system stands at the galactic crossroads.

There do seem to be some comets making near approaches to the Earth around this date also.

Wasn't something like that supposed to happen in like 1997 or 99. But then again, this does have a lot more to do with the ancient. I just wouldn't worry about
