I just think everyone should take it. Even if you don't have any symptoms that are described.

As so many members here at ATS have documented and proven....the big pharma companies and doctors offices and US Government only want to help us and only care about our health and well being.

I hope they make this mandatory for new born's just like the HepB shot. Because we all know that new born babies are having sex with drug using smack addicts so they are probably also restless sleepers.

Great post....!!! S&F

Lets get legislation going now!!!!

Well if they aren't having those problems yet, they will have them eventually. Better off getting the early prevention going!

My understanding is that humans are not strictly diurnal. Rather, we are biphasic sleepers, i.e. we cop 3-6 hours of recuperative REM sleep at night, and then take 1-3 hour rest (nap, siesta, etc) at he height of the day (2-4).

Biphasic Article

Biphasic sleep anecdote

Anecdote Update

The wife and I sleep at night from 1- 2am - 7am, and try to take a nap at 2pm before the kids get off the bus at 330pm. There is a difference when compared to striving for the "recommended" 8 hrs straight.

Non-24 could simply be the body trying to set back to "default."

Interesting thread all the same. Have heard the radio adds as well.

I am very comfortable with a 34/36hr cycle with 8 hours of sleep per cycle.

There is no way i can get off it without taking sleeping pills witch i will not do and the doctors will not prescribe.

One thing i have run into is others with the same problem. most have autoimmune and neurological disorders like me.(neurosarcoidosis, fibromyalgia, peripheral nerve disorders. Mixed small fiber nerve disorders)

Thanks for digging into this. S&F

I too have been hearing these radio commercials and thought it sounded fishy. Good to know.

Um, I'm sorry but, while you may think this is a made up disorder and a ploy to get people to take a drug, in fact it is an actual disorder, which is common in totally-blind people as they cannot perceive the day light which helps your brain determine the difference between day and night. That is why the drug is targeted at the blind. Furthermore, in the rare few who have the disorder who do have sight, there is a different, unknown cause, so the same drug would not work for them. That is, again, why it is targeted at the blind.

I know for a fact non-24 hour sleep wake disorder is not made up, or just a case of being a night owl, because I have it, and am also not blind, so that drug won't help me. This disorder causes me to gradually, day by day, turn around from sleeping through the night to being awake throughout and being asleep during the day. I also always find it difficult to wake up by force rather than naturally, and have trouble falling asleep. This disorder has ruled my life for the past 16 years, and is very real.

Thank you for reading my post, I just wanted to explain the disorder to you. The drug may still just not work or be a way to target those with a disorder that has no cure, but I simply don't know.

If you want to know more about non-24, the Wikipedia page has all the information you could want.

I hope I was somewhat helpful.

i have had a circadian rhythm disorder for many years.
part from working rotating shift for over ten years and from working straight graveyard shift for 5 years.
and part due to co-morbid disorders from autoimmune disorders that messes with the body hormones.

I sleep a 36hour day but do not feel sleepy during the day.

I have had Vampire syndrome from before I was born. That is what my mother called it. My mother said in utero I would sleep all day and as soon as the sun started to set, I was awake and kicking all night, until the sun was about to rise.

My mom said as a toddler she had to put a bell on me because I would get up at night and roam, and she would have to try to keep waking me up during the day, in hopes that I would sleep at night.

For my first 20 years after school, I worked night shift. When it became obvious that the jobs that I wanted further up the ladder, called for day work, I survived by zonking out on my days off. Sleep for me became like ice cream. That is all I wanted to do when off, it was the only way for me to recharge.

Now that I am retired, my circadian rhythm has not changed one bit, but when I sleep is no big deal any more. I don't think I would have taken this drug before, and I sure have no need or desire to take it now.

Some of us night owls, just have like being night walkers.
