poor kid but the figures say you are more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist these days in america where people will now be scared to open the door to a cop

What would Jesus do?

Not sure what religion has to do with this in any way at all, but I'm pretty sure Jesus would not have knocked on the door with his weapon drawn just to serve a warrant...which she must have done because the article quotes the attorney as stating that "upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest." If she had not, she likely would have been able to ascertain fairly quickly that even if it was a Wii "pistol" he was holding in his hand, it was not an actual gun. I am trying to find more info on that particular point, because that is extremely disturbing.

Considering how fast they have to react, they have no time to discern whether or not a gun is fake. Announce that you are the police in the first place and people will make sure to not be holding a fake gun used for video games when they answer the door. It is common sense.

Understood. However, the question was why did she knock on the door with her weapon drawn to serve a warrant? Unless she's Quick Draw McGraw, she should not have been able to immediately blast him upon the door being opened. And every single article I have read states very clearly that he was holding a Wii remote...not the plastic pistol remote, but an ordinary game controller, which looks absolutely nothing like a weapon. The only logical explanation is that she had her weapon out when she knocked on that door, and was already primed to use it on someone.

And you raise another excellent point...why did they not announce themselves? The attorney said "it doesn't add up". And he's right, it sure doesn't.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering what the probation violation was for. I have never liked the way police are allowed to draw their weapons when no real threat has presented itself yet. As for the average citizen, you are not allowed to draw YOUR weapon until a threat to your life is present, IE the person trying to kill you already having drawn theirs. Otherwise you get a brandishing charge. If we have to follow that rule, they should too. I could see certain exceptions being made - like serving murder warrants. But even then, you have to announce yourself so people don't get shot. Make sure they see the squad car because armed robbers have been known to pretend to be police, kick in doors with police uniforms on, and rape and pillage (literally). But that won't happen because arrests are more important than the lives of officers and citizens alike. Well, if arrests are the most important thing, a lot of people are going to die who would not have otherwise and you can't get around it. Both cops and civilians. All because some rich guys love money more than they value your life.

You know, in Detroit, when a cop gets shot, people automatically assume they deserved it. Civil rights violations are common place. For the sake of HUMAN LIFE, the procedures have to be updated. The cops violating civil rights in many cities don't even realize they are wrong, because it is WHAT THEY WERE TAUGHT TO DO! They don't deserve to get shot. The policy needs to be updated to account for all of the factors involved and preserve human life.

This hardens my heart tremendously, a kid from a trailer park with a troubled situation doing the best he could. Being guided by Jrotc instructors and peers to be a better citizen and a better person was shot dead because of the incompetence of an officer serving a warrant. This stems from either a lack of training, or a lack of self control, both of which are supposedly tested out of the police force while still in training at the academy. Now is the time to draw and line, this far NO further. This is absolutely unacceptable. The officer should be discharged from their employment and a grand jury impaneled. A cry for blood should be answered for. This officer should serve as an example for all others. Their should be consequences.

Either that or citizens need to police the police to whatever means necessary. Including the use of deadly force when circumstances call for it. If the people do not hold these public servants accountable, they are literally locking themselves in their own cage or pulling the trigger on their own children themselves.

I can relate a lot to this kid. As I said, it hardens my heart.

16There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: 17Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, biblehub.com...

Do not let the world harden your heart. That is Satan's goal, who is a liar and a murderer from the beginning. Do not make the same mistake as she did, and end up with innocent blood on your hands.

Let Jesus soften your heart so that you can be a lamp for God instead of entangling your mind in human thinking and recourse to worldly measures.

What are people suppose to do, assume the laying on the floor with your
hands behind your head position every time anyone ever knocks on their
door? REALLY? This is just another example of poor training.

Actually she had good training. While beyond comprehension to nearly all of use potential gun fodder, the police are trained to do this now. This woman did as she was told. The training worked to perfection. That's the problem, the training is so good that she no longer thinks, ever, she just does what she was trained to do without a moral compass as her guide. The training is beyond good, as it is very hard to get people, especially women, to abandon their natural instinct in favor of "shoot first" and just fill out the forms later. But the new wave of policy enforcement officers have gone through a new system of training, which, is here to stay I'm afraid.

Exactly. Because every person who has ever been to a trailer park knows that simply because of the trailers, the people are automatically trash who answer the door brandishing weapons so cops' weapons must be drawn at all times. Luckily for the boy's family, there were witnesses. So they can't just sweep this one under the proverbial carpet and pretend like they followed actual protocol. I really hope that this will prompt a reevaluation of said "training", but it's really not very bloody likely is it? No, I expect we will continue to see more and more of this type of situation occurring as the general level of paranoia and social unrest continues to rise. Won't make it any less tragic and disgusting, but as with every other horror that we are exposed to on a routine basis, my fear is that we will become desensitized to this kind of thing too, the outcries will make less of a difference...and round and round and round it'll go...

No longer can cops be called "peace officers". This is outrageous behavior, and not the first of its kind.

Notice how the police are already twisting the facts to somehow make the shooting justified. Well since the cop was there on official business with a warrant bla bla bla. She was there on official duty, but FAILED to announce and in the process of having her weapon drawn, negligently shot and killed a young man that wasn't even armed. Furthermore, it is not illegal to answer your door holding a pistol in a secured non threatening way. The question: Was there a weapon involved? If so was the weapon being pointed at you? NO. Then your life is not in imminent danger is it?? Instead of the preservation of life, she took it. That shows incompetence and should face manslaughter charges.

Again for all you out there and cops. It is NOT illegal for a person to answer their door with a firearm in hand as long as it is in a secured non threatening position or holstered. That is not illegally brandishing of a weapon. RCW 9.41.270 There it is in black and white.

As a side note...There is no such thing as illegally concealing a weapon at your abode/home/property/place of business. It is also not illegal to store a weapon in a glove box in a vehicle. In fact it is the opposite. You're securing the weapon in a locked box. In my opinion having a conceal weapons permit is pointless. Why do cops carry out in the open then? To draw faster. Nothing wrong with being a open carry gunslinger. So what right does a cop have shooting a person dead simply by answering the door with a gun in his hand or not? In fact according to that law he/she has even more right to do so because they are at their abode.

The statement alleged that he was actually pointing the "gun" at her. So that, coupled with what you said, makes it obvious (my opinion) that they worded it so that they had that base covered as well.

There are two threads on this exact topic going on right now, which I mentioned in the other one, lol...but both are still open. Not sure which one to comment on, so I'm just going to keep checking both
