Of course, society changes it's values over time. Back when 13 or 14 year old girls were being married off, the life expectancy was pretty darn low as well, so it's all relative.

There is talk among some circles in the UK academia and political classes about looking at the age of consent in the UK again. Some have advocated lowering it to 15.

I totally get what you're saying. Keep in mind this post isn't so much about the case itself but more about the fact that this guy has the complete lack of understanding about how he was wrong. So much so that he even thinks he should get his job as an Officer of the Law!! I mean the balls on this guy!!!

Total sociopath in my opinion.
Considers it all just a moral mistake, no biggie. Yet he admits to watching UFC fights at her house and banging this chick while on duty!! Cheating on his wife, breaking the law which he is supposed to be enforcing and skipping his duties completely, yet he wants his job back. No shame and No ability to understand social norms or human behavior = sociopath.
IMO, not a good person for a cop!!

No, he didn't do any time at all. None of the cops involved in this even got arrested. They just lost their jobs.

I'd say both. The laws can be fixed. As for the man I'm not sure.

I just want to point out that the investigation is ongoing. A special prosecutor was assigned and he has not convened a grand jury yet to get an indictment on the officers.

Like I said before when you deal with criminal prosecution against officers some extra steps are involved. Special prosecutors, possibility of the judges in the county recusing themselves, Prosecuting Attorney recusing himself. If indictments are handed down, and to this point based on the officer who tried to get his job back is going to occur, you will then see activity to have the trial moved to a different county / issues with jury pool selection based on media coverage of the event etc.

I will say this is one of the few rare occasions I have seen where an officer is terminated for his actions before any type of charges are brought.

All of the above options are available to everyone else and not just law enforcement.

I am curious if his testimony at his IA hearing / appeals hearing can be used against him. If so I think the officer, if charged, will most likely try to get a deal from the SPA.

I think you mistook my post. I was saying that the legal process is slowly ongoing because of A. the special prosecutor and B the need to get an indictment from a grand jury instead of the PA issuing warrants on his own. The post I replied to was to point that fact out and not to defend the officer / actions. People are missing the portion regarding the grand jury and just assume the only issue was the officers losing their jobs.

Secondly, in case you were not aware, Officers can be ordered to answer questions during an IA investigation from superior officers. In those instances the officers are read their garrity rights. As I said, I have not seen an officer terminated this quickly prior to criminal charges being filed and it going to trial.

That's why I asked about his testimony in the IA appeals hearing.

Hopefully that clears up your confusion regarding the part of my post you quoted.

To be honest it depends on what state you live in and what the age of consent is. I gave an example of this issue a page or 2 back, addressing the issue of a minor consenting to sex but because they are under 17 or 18 (legal adults in states) their parents can file charges on their behalf, whether the 15 year old wants to or not.

So, I cant give you a complete answer to your hypotheticals because its lacking some of the key elements needed in order to answer it.

In the US in many states you can have sex with underage teens as long as you pay them for sex.

If the cops find out the teen will go to jail for Prostitution and the adult will get a ticket for it.

We are all stupid when young that is just a fact and our family and circumstances dictate a lot of our behavior.

I can tell you that all those special prosecutor/investigators are scrambling. Some say they resemble cats in a well-used sandbox.
If they ask the right people the right questions there could be some wide-ranging implications for the entire area.
Three different law enforcement agencies involved?
I'd bet a dollar to a galloping donut that if the investigation is vigorously pursued, other young girls will be discovered who have been victimized by these men in uniform and others in positions of authority. They may find even younger children if they are truly diligent. These kinds of secrets are part of the glue that hold together the little kingdoms in these counties. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the young lady involved mysteriously disappeared.
With so many paths to follow, this may take a while.

Edited to add: Having done just a quick Google of this, I see the special prosecutor was appointed last October...must be a whole mess of trails to track...

This is so not true and highly illegal.

A news article is just that, and not an expert. I would be extremely careful about taking the info in this post as factual.

Solicitation - illegal
Sex with a minor (paid or unpaid) - illegal

What is more preferable -
A special Prosecutor rushing the investigation to bring charges he cant completely support in a courtroom, resulting in officers being found not guilty / acquittal with jeopardy attached...

or

A special prosecutor taking the time to complete a thorough investigation that stands a better chance of sticking in court resulting in convictions?

real meaning is butchered and this only makes real ones less troubling for people after repeated abuse of the word.

A bit more investigation about this (calls to friends in the area) reveals that apparently the appointed special prosecutor is dragging his feet and hoping it will all fade from memory. This is not, from all indications, an isolated incident, but there are several more very young teens that are "traded" among law enforcement---a trail this special prosecutor can't see the end of, and is afraid to follow.... it leads upward in city/county government. This was said to be passed off as "the boys having a little fun."
I don't doubt his word one bit because many years ago I saw the same thing in our county, involving law enforcement, lawyers, doctors/drugs, and porn movies. At least two people died in that mess and nobody was brought to real justice. The doc lost his license and did some time but he took the fall for at least a dozen others involved. It is one sick society when things like this and like Penn State can happen under our noses.
