My belief is because of multi faith academic research, including the Vatican Libraries and documents since hidden from public view.

I'm afraid that you're going to need to qualify that statement if you expect any credibility. What documents? How did you have access to them? Why did the Vatican hide them from public view? And what evidence do you have to support any of it? It seems a little far-fetched to say that, within the last fifty years, or whatever, the Vatican publicly put forth documents refuting their own religion, and then redacted them, and no one but you saw them. But I'm willing to hear the story.

You know the drill… "exceptional claims require exceptional evidence."

Firstly, I do not need to validate my research to you or anyone. I do not care whether you believe me, the facts are there.

Secondly do not make presumptions about things I said based on things I didn't say.

About 10 years ago there was a lot more now classified Vatican documents available online from the first noted documents on Roman Christianity, Peter, Council of Nicea etc that aren't freely available now. At the time I was studying religion and spent many hours reading these documents.

Are you denying all the facts that make the bible, 'Jesus' and Christianity questionable?

Are you denying the fact that 'Jesus' has vast similarity to Apollo for example?

Are you denying the fact that there are vast discrepancies between newly found ancient 'bible' texts and the current version?

Are you denying that 'the Christos' was a term used by the mystery religions before the alleged birth of 'Jesus'?

There are so many questions that make the bible questionable in it's authenticity.

I do not need to validate my questioning of the questionable.

Perhaps you should be attempting to provide the proof you tried demanding of me as to your blind belief in biblical text despite historical inaccuracies and known intervention throughout it's inception.

Besides this thread is about BUDDHISM in the bible, I have provided examples of this. Perhaps you should keep on topic instead of berating those that do not share your faith of biblical authenticity.

Firstly, I do not need to validate my research to you or anyone. I do not care whether you believe me, the facts are there.

Without evidence, you don't have facts, you have conjecture. That's why assertive statements are generally questioned when there is no evidence.

About 10 years ago there was a lot more now classified Vatican documents available online from the first noted documents on Roman Christianity, Peter, Council of Nicea etc that aren't freely available now.

Where? And what were the documents? If you have specific titles, I can probably find them -- once something is on the Internet, it's pretty much going to stick around forever. There's archive.org, if nothing else.

I've given out this link before, but here, for example, are the Writings which document the Council of Nicaea.

Are you denying the fact that 'Jesus' has vast similarity to Apollo for example?

I don't know, I've not seen anyone claim that. But if it's anything like other Christ Mythicists, who claim that vague and mundane similarities to earlier figures, combined with absolute fabrications (like "Horus was crucified",) indicate that Jesus was not an historical figure, then yes, I'd probably say that is a stretch.

Are you denying the fact that there are vast discrepancies between newly found ancient 'bible' texts and the current version?

Again, you need to provide specifics. What "ancient 'bible' texts" are you talking about? And what "vast discrepancies"?

Are you denying that 'the Christos' was a term used by the mystery religions before the alleged birth of 'Jesus'?

The word "Christos" is Greek for "Anointed One", and was the translation of the Hebrew word that means the same thing, Messiah. Since lots of people (including the Emperors) were anointed, it's not remarkable that the word was used to describe other people.

I do not need to provide facts of bible discrepancies, nor to prove anything to you or anyone.

Like I said the historical facts are there, if you want to search for them then do.

I have written about this topic on RELEVANT threads many times and provided links, if you want to go search all my old posts you might find the link to the Vatican documents but their site was redone a few years ago and the place where I got the transcripts from isn't there nor are the documents in other places on their site, this is true for many of the documents that were available there. In their place now are glossover texts written recently about generalisations of being a Catholic.

If you want to search for transcripts from the councils of Nicea and Trent, you can, but it was the real deal from the Vatican, it wasn't from another site's interpretation.

Because I have covered this topic many times and this isn't the right thread, I won't be spending time giving evidence of bible discrepancies. If you want to know my opinion and previous extensive links I have provided then I suggest you search ATS for the relevent posts.

You apparently didn't bother looking at the site that I linked to. It wasn't "another site's interpretation", it is the original texts of the Council of Nicaea. I keep the link handy to share with gullible prats who think that Nicaea established Biblical Canon and that Dan Brown is an historian.

Given that you have several thousand posts, I am disinclined to search through your posting history in an effort to prove your claims for you. The evidence indicates that the New Testament is the best source of information about the life and teachings of Jesus, and apart from some vague generalities that pretty much any moral teacher would profess, there is little overlap between Christ and Buddha, so we can safely say that Buddhism is not represented in the Bible, apart from those general moral certainties.

Obviously you are confused.

The link you sent does not contain the transcripts of the council of Nicea from the Vatican archives that I read, simple! Those are just letters etc. So perhaps you shouldn't stop being presumptious.

Additionally, you asked for 'proof' so you can go find it if you want.

Furthermore there isn't any evidence of your claims of the bible's authenticity nor any evidence against the fact that the oldest found bibles disagree those considered 'word of God' by devout followers. That in itself is a discrepancy.

If your choice is blind belief then that is your choice.

My choice is to question the questionable and seek the truth.

Furthermore there isn't any evidence of your claims of the bible's authenticity

Again, I would suggest that you read Richard Bauckham, a respected historian, not someone who makes wild claims and then fails to produce any evidence to back it up. If you are not an historian, you might not understand some of the methodology, but he does a very good job of explaining his findings.

You seem to be labouring under the belief that I am a fundamentalist, who believes that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. I am not, all I've said regarding the text's veracity is that there is good historical evidence that the Gospels were written by eyewitnesses, making them the most reliable source of information about Jesus and his teachings.

nor any evidence against the fact that the oldest found bibles disagree those considered 'word of God' by devout followers.

Since you're unwilling to explain what these "oldest found Bibles" and "vast differences" are, we're kind of at a loggerhead. To the best of my knowledge, the only significant differences from early New Testament manuscripts are the post-resurrection appearances in Mark and the Comma Johanneum in 1 John, though neither significantly changes what the New Testament teaches.

The bibles authenticity seems to be a big deal.

What if you found a mathbook written by someone unknown and the book says 2 + 4 = 6 and all mathematical problems solved are correct? Is that a reason to not believe what's written in it?

You seem confused again.

I didn't make any ''wild claims'' the archaeological facts are there, from writings on Apollo, Mithra etc to early Gnostic and Coptic texts, to found 'bibles' (there are many).

I have more credentials than 'historian' but that is neither here nor there. I choose not to go over the entire 'bible authenticity' issue in this thread as it isn't the right thread to do so and I have done so many times on ATS on the correct threads.

I have read about the researcher you suggested and many others, however I still question the bible. That is my rational choice based on research.

Every time a conflicting archaeological find is made there are a screed of Christian scholars making excuses and using bible text as their 'proof'.

I was brought up a Christian in a very religious family, Church Elders etc, I even went to Church school on a Sunday, 'Jesus' was my hero as a child, until the answers I was given from the Church about Christianity and 'Jesus' sounded so unconvincing and contradictory, my faith wavered.

I studied various religions as a teenager and in my 30's, in depth, including academic research. I have read many academic papers on the foundations of Christianity. When you go far back enough and actually read the words recorded from various Councils and the first texts of Christian documents and see all sorts of paganism mentioned and disputes about whether to add certain aspects of Christ based on some Popes urge or if they think it is relevant to Christianity or not, when they argued about which names to use, and then whilst reading about other religions in a historical context and there are the same references, the pieces fit together into a picture of an emerging and evolved Christianity that is not as it pertains to be.

I would urge those seeking the truth to set aside their bible beliefs and do some real historical research.

Furthermore accusations of ''you're stupid and know nothing, show proof that the bible isn't authentic'' is just the sort of response I expect from those denying ignorance.

Some of the basics, as a start.

You clearly missed my point.

I feel there is nothing I can do for you.

Furthermore accusations of ''you're stupid and know nothing, show proof that the bible isn't authentic'' is just the sort of response I expect from those denying ignorance.

That isn't what I said.

Richard Bauckham has made the claim that the New Testament was written by eyewitnesses, and he has backed that up with direct evidence. You made the claim that the New Testament was written by a Roman scribe, and backed that up with no evidence. You won't even say what the documents are that you claim to have seen so that I could go track them down and see whether they are legitimate.

Put it another way. Let's say that I say this:

There are Nazi bases on the moon. I know that everyone tells you otherwise, and you can't see them, but several years ago, I saw secret documents on NASA's web site that said so. They took the documents down, of course, because NASA doesn't want you to know that there are secret Nazi bases on the moon.

So, what's your reaction? "Wow, Nazi bases on the moon!" or "That's ridiculous, show me some proof!"

I see that you've cited "Freethought Nation" as one of your sources. D.M. Murdoch is an abject fraud, and there are a number of threads here on ATS that expose her nonsense as such. Even atheists who think that the Bible is a work of fiction dismiss her.

Again you are obviously confused.

I ACTUALLY said this. Really you should stop making straw man arguments.

For all you or anyone else knows it could have been a work of fiction by 'apostles' etc or some writer somewhere working to an agenda.

There is no proof that the first Christian bible wasn't written by say a Roman scribe or by false accounts of 'apostles'.

As for my research, I have read many ACADEMIC papers over a course of more than 10 years, which I have already mentioned more than once. There isn't a list of the links sitting right here for me to supply on ATS, if there was, I still wouldn't as it is my professional research and not public. That said, I have already told you of one of the most relevant from the Vatican website, the TRANSCRIPTS OF THE COUNCILS OF NICEA AND TRENT AMONG OTHERS.

I do not need to provide proof for my choice to question the bible.

Those that do not question it should be brought to task, how do you explain 8000 year old civilisations in Israel for example?, dinosaurs? There are so many questions.

As for the links I provided, those are not my research nor a source and I clearly didn't refer to them as such, so again stop the straw arguments. I provided those as a starting point for bible discrepancies.

Now, seeing as you are obviously creating straw arguments and making claims that I didn't say, I shall think of you as on par to a troll and as such not worthy of my time and energy. Therefore I shall not reply to you.

There are no such transcripts. I gave you a link to the only known documents associated with the Council of Nicaea, and none of them are transcripts, because there weren't any.

“Burkhardt’s assessment of Constantine’s role at Nicaea– ‘insisting on homousios and cowing the majority into submission– is as unfounded as Carroll’s claims. Both rest on the same evidence which is to say, on nothing!!! Eusebius left us an account of the council, which he attended, but he provided very little information about the course of the debates and motivation of the participants, and certainly no transcript.” (Source, though he's citing a book by Peter Leithart)

So I don't know what you think you saw on the Vatican's web site, but it wasn't a transcript of the First Council of Nicaea.

Once again, historical evidence indicates that the Gospels were sourced from eyewitnesses to the life and teaching of Christ, and were written in the Apostolic Age, making them the best source of information about Christ. And those texts do not support any claim that Jesus taught Buddhism, apart from general moral teachings that any moral teacher would impart.
