They have had some residents from sochi interviewed by foreign media. They were complaining that the rules in place essentially rolled back the freedoms they gained with the collapse of the soviet union.

Apparently Russian government units were doing house to house searches without warrants to check for illegal / contraband items.

I just don't see how its going to be possible to lock that area down (lawfully anyways) to the extent of preventing something.

the other thing I don't quite get is - Why Sochi?

Why not another Russia City?

I am sure people will disagree however I don't think the US / Allies are supplying weapons / arms to those groups. For one Russia would not tolerate it, secondly Russia would not be quiet about it and finally they would not allow US / NATIO supplies run through their country to Afghanistan.

I agree I don't think there would ever be any official support by NATO or the US. I was thinking more like influence and/or financing from Saudi or somewhere.

Now, while supporting these kinds of groups is hardly ever "official", only so many people can finance wars or resistance. Which leads back to the question of who is supporting the heinous crimes when regular people are targeted.

I mean.. Russia has PLENTY of places that would be viable locations for the Winter Olympics?

America has great beer (some of the best). It's just the big brewers aren't worth much.

I'm partial to Breckenridge Brewery. Try some sometime. I prefer the IPA's or the vanilla porter.
And that's something you can get most places in the US. If you go to some of the really small batches, i'd compare it to any beer in the world.
If you are ever in Gatlinburg TN try some of the micro brews at the Smoky Mountain Brewery.

Yes, we DO have some excellent beer. I for one LOVE Yuengling Black & Tan (unfortunately, only available on the East Coast).

But, the brands that sell the most domestically are also what are considered "Oooohh..it's a FOREIGN IMPORT from AMERICA" are generally crap. I roll my eyes when I see my buddy from the UK savoring his Bud tallboy.

Budweiser being the King of the Crap.

If you are considering Saudi Arabia Us ally then Russia seem to say the opposite.

Nothing like a subtropical climate with mild winters for the Winter Olympics.

No beer bash? I'm definitely not going.

Dispite the terror threat, apparently the hotels and entire area suck. Crumbled sidewalks, non-complete hotels, no running water. Russia, your drunk, go home and drink more vodka, and leave the Olympics to real countries. Can't beleive they aren't prepared in so many ways, just to host the Olympics in itself! Despite terror!

And that starts to paint the picture. Sounds like some powerful players in Russia MIGHT have pushed for Sochi so they could get some of that Olympics money. Obviously that would explain why it's starting and the hotel rooms still aren't finished. It wasn't for a lack of time.. and it shouldn't have been for money (since it's the most expensive olympics ever), but it seems maybe not all that money was spent.

It's a scam designed under the guise of world games haha.
