Who cares how long it took him, the point is he still did it. He could have easily blamed the weather and left the family to hope the patient survived the night. This man deserves to be recognized. He went above and beyond what most people (and I bet most doctors) would do.

It's sad actually because this is exactly what it means to be a doctor. And it's exactly why the real ones deserve our respect.

And that was my whole point for posting this article. He did what many would never have done.

It's a really good thing to have done but for me its an act of normality.
I walk about 5-6 miles on my days off from work without even thinking about it and i have a really nice car that i use everyday but i won't use it to get around my local community unless i'm buying something like bags full of groceries.
My friend in work was telling me about a guy in Atlanta that walked 6 miles to his daughters school through the snow as if he had just landed on Mars.
I think us westerners are getting a little decadent if we think a 6 mile walk through snow is a news story.
The Dr must be from the non Prima Donna old school college of medicine.

Normality my rear.

Well then aren't you special. What do you want a medal? Not everyone can walk like that you know.

There is always those in a post that lessen a good deed because they feel it's not worthy. Um sorry but this is a news story. How friggin often do you hear about ANYONE walking in this kind of weather to perform surgery? Apparently you missed the whole darn point of why I posted it. He could have cancelled the surgery.

God I'm so annoyed with this site anymore. WHY do I even bother posting anything anymore?!

Walking six miles in snow is NOT FRIGGIN NORMAL for the average person.

Have you done it in the snow and bone numbing cold??
I dont care WHO YOU ARE, walking in that effects your whole body
I'm tired of people acting like 5-6 miles of snow is no small feat
I'd LOVE to see the BS talkers do that

Because you are still madly in love with me, over all these year.

And I am really glad you posted this positive story to help balance out the over-whelming "Doom Porn"

Hope all is well with you and your little one.

The reason I mentioned flagstar was that you seemed to imply I was criticizing or "lessening" his decision to walk to save a life. I hope he gets a medal from the President. Just saying that what choice did he have? He tried to drive, he couldn't, so he got out to walk. Even if he wasn't used to walking in blizzards, and maybe he didn't have proper shoes on, so he kept slipping and falling down (maybe), it still is a long time to walk six miles. He did his job, he did a good job, and what's odd is that he couldn't flag down a police car or something on the way.

So we are on the same page on this, just that I think it was his duty, and he is honorable enough to do his duty. Long time walking though.

You, Sir, obviously do not know the situation that was going on in Birmingham, AL. at the time. I DO! Temperatures were in the teens with windchill factors hovering around and below zero. Sleet and freezing rain started first, then came the snow. Most of Alabama was shut down. The LEOs were going in the ditch as often as the civilians.I was stuck in Mobile for 2 days because they do not know how to deal with that kind of weather. We Yanks are. So KUDOS to that Doctor for braving the elements that He was not use to, to get the job done and save a life.

He answered honestly "I'm just doing my job" if we all behaved like human beings this would be the norm.
The story is great as we, at this current time of corruption, are in awe of humanity in action.

S/F for such a positive post. Thanks. Health cars has been on my shlitz list lately, and it's good to know there are still people at his level who care.

I am currently dealing with my doctors and trying to get a neurologist for my constant migraines. It's like jumping through hoops! I can't get any of them to return my calls.

Migrane - What is the Mind-Body Connection?
When your mind will not allow an outlet for your frustrations, you create an blockage of energy in and around the head. You need to relinquish control of your emotions by allowing yourself to express how you feel in a constructive way.

Bet you had no migraine while writing this great post.

Headache - What is the Mind-Body Connection?
A headache is a sign that the mind has overrun the body through forceful thought and impatience. As a result, you are feeling pressure from yourself because your thoughts are not in alignment with how you feel. You need to change your approach by allowing yourself to feel first, then act with your heart and mind aligned.
