So it's all over the news reels and all - we at ATS might as well discuss the saga started by Tom Perkins, by likening progressives to Nazi's and the "creative" 1% as being threatened... In his paranoid comparison he compares the Occupy movement to Kristallnacht..

Regarding your editorial "Censors on Campus" (Jan. 18): Writing from the epicenter of progressive thought, San Francisco, I would call attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its "one percent," namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one percent, namely the "rich."

Ol' Tommy doesn't seem to understand the shear amount of arrogant hypocrisy he displays by these comments, and how it reflects on the pigs of the 1% class.

I find myself quite at a loss to know where to begin with this issue. It seems to me that this person has no respect for the nation which gave birth to him, nor the people who made it possible for him to "earn" his vast fortune. He fails to understand entirely, that without the multitudes of people working to produce goods, and provide services, he would never have had any stock to sell in the first place, nor any financial products to tout, no financial system to work within.

The fact is, that this fellow has no idea how the world really works, because if he did, then he would know that no matter how hard he THINKS he worked for that money he has, the prestige he has gained, none of it would have been possible if not for the little guy, the man on the street, the people who are having their lives devastated by crippling cost of living expenditures in the area of his concern.

To compound this startling lack of intellect by comparing the genuine complaints of these folks, with the howling, blood hungry fascist ideals unleashed on Germany by Nazism, is frankly appalling, and he should be ashamed of himself, not just for saying what he said, but for being stupid enough to have thought it in the first place.

I don't know why people are complaining about the rich. That has also been the American system to create rich people. The problem is a handful of central bankers control everything, which is the problem. We shouldn't redistribute wealth for the ones that are successful that's how u get the soviet union to collapse.

The collapse of the Soviet Union created the new Russian plutocracy by selling off all the valuable state assets to private citizens, many of whom went on to become billionaires. What we need is a system where people are motivated to innovate but not simply to get rich. It seems we need a cap on individual and corporate weath.

I agree. That is the problem with a good portion of todays society. It all about the money in the present, while never looking forward. When I was kid, it was all about making money, and being a guy in a suit, and never getting dirty. While a relative of mine, always had a mind set on what he wanted to do, and that was automotive mechanics since it was a passion of his.

When I in elementary school, I had that wannabe suit and desk office mentality, then I realized how lame it was. Then I wanted to go into trades in high school since I was more of hands-on person, but the trade I wanted to get into wouldn't make enough money. So I spend a good portion of my life not giving #, and just make money.

Now I wanna do something different for the sake of not being autonomous(which is slowly rotting my brain).
If I wanted too, I could go out west to oilsands and never worry about money again, but I don`t like oil, and I don`t wanna freeze in -50 C. Even though I would like to go into alternative, like solar or wind, but it so slow.

Like Molasses.

And how the sun is shining in my area...No solar panels within half a mile.

Makes me have aneurysm out of sheer stupidity.

I thought school was to prevent me from being this stupid.

Quite right mate! No man is an island. Only a rich man or a fool would think he is i.e this rich fool

The problem is this - Becoming a self-made man is the ideal. However, becoming the self-made man sometimes mean that you will become that most evil of evil things *gasp* wealthy. When a person becomes wealthy is making themselves, it used to be something we respected and aspired to, now those people get maligned with all the others because apparently, having money means you must be greedy.

Here's an anecdotes:

This year, we got primo passes to sit in the top media press box (brand-new) at our alma's football stadium. We're talking `% land. We got the opportunity from a friend of ours who's a vet surgeon who got them from a client who was impressed with some work our friend did. This guy owns his own construction company which he and his brother built from the ground up meaning they put lots of years of blood, sweat, tears and hard labor into it. Now, they can afford to use company money to buy a 6-digit per year suite for their friends, family, clients, basically whomever they choose to be generous to, and I don't begrudge them that success. They clearly earned it. They are people to aspire to be like.

I have no idea what all they do with their money, but they were the nicest most down to earth people. They had come from where we were and they hadn't forgotten it.

But anytime you seek to impair a person's ability to be rich because you think they are nasty or spoiled or greedy, you impair people who deserve to earn their wealth from having it too. You also impair your own ability to ever realize any kind of wealth.

In a sense, you are very much working against your own interests as much as anyone else's because you are envious of what others have that you don't. The reality is that there will always be people who have what they have through unfair means, but that holds true from the very top of society on down to the very bottom. I'm sure you know of people who are no better off than you who don't deserve even what little they have.

I'd like that. The first step is to get the government out of higher education so that colleges have to lower tuition rates to something more affordable.

Exactly. Then the next step is scaling back regulation for investors. Then after that lets make it more affordable by using some of our tax dollars to make it free to file for business licensing and the other "essential" certifications and everything else that comes with running a small business.

Talk about one was we should be spending our tax dollars.

Amassing wealth will always cause a rift in the system, wealth isnt meant to be amassed its suppose to be leveraged into assets that create things like jobs and more wealth.

This however does not change the fact that in our current system all wealth is created from debt and its mandatory in order for their to be growth in the system

Its doomed to fail no matter how you look at it.

As long as our system is designed for "wealth" we will never reach any equilibrium necessary to create a sustainable future for everyone and we will always have an underclass.

When we create a system thats not about wealth but about humanity and the future then well be able to create an equilibrium thats not socialistic but community oriented and about humanity and nuturing.

Cant stand this argument anymore we need to change our culture and get away from this idea of wealth its an idea thats not working.

The reason is that when you hint at anything that threatens the "precious" it is either "wealth redistribution" or a cry of it is against a country's patriotism to do so. You know, the last hiding places of scoundrels.

Would be AWESOME if there were conditions for peopl eto become successful w/o the people becoming enslaved to the generational wealth of the bankers.

Easiest way, erase the credit record!

Or we could truly redistribute the wealth and have 100% estate taxes to solve spoiled brats like the icehole in the stories @ the start of the thread! That'll learn him!
