Total Recall really WAS all a schizoid embolism

So, we all know and love Total Recall. (The original. What remake?)

But a lot of people think that the main character, Douglas Quaid, gets the girl in the end, walks off into the sunset, and everything is fine.

Nope. He's out of his mind.

Dig this: When they're first jacking him into the Recall machine, they ask him what type of woman he'd like, and for a second or so, you see Melina, the girl he meets in the dream. One of the technicians says, "Blue sky on Mars, that's a new one!". And by the end of it, there's a blue sky on Mars.

So... What I figure REALLY happened: He murdered his wife. Those brain-butchers really screwed him up good. When she tried to talk sense into him, he slipped into a state of psychosis, believed she was out to kill him, and his mind made up a justification.

If Cohaagen wanted him to find Quato, why does he have Richter try to kill him? Why does his so-called alter-ego Hauser tell him to remove the tracking device if Hauser actually works for Cohaagen all along?

The part of the film where the Doctor speaks to him and tries to convince him that he's having a schizoid embolism, and Quaid just thinks it's a trick? What did he have to go on? A single drop of sweat. Maybe he was nervous about another lawsuit. Maybe he was nervous about the psychotic Austrian bodybuilder with a Claridge Hi-Tec/Gonzc GA nine millimeter. What-ever the case be, I don't think he was trying to trick Quaid. See, Cohaagen's plan according to the delusion was that he needed Quaid to find the mutants' leader, Quato. Poisoning him wouldn't help with that. So, by deduction, the only other option is that Quaid really WAS crazy.

So, being unable to handle the truth, Quaid shoots the doctor, and his lovely wife. Then, he goes and finds the mutants' leader, and then they are raided. I believe at this point, Quaid is being sieged by the actual police. When he's captured and brought before "Cohaagen", he's booked, incarcerated, and lobotomized.

The last shot of the movie, a white light that grows increasingly intense... That's the last thought Douglas Quaid will ever have.
He's like Rosemary Kennedy now. Sitting in some mental institute. His wife would probably come and visit him, if he hadn't have murdered her.

Lesson is, don't go to Rekall. Those people are brain butchers.

If my memory serves me correct. The movie sucked. The re-make sucked even more. IMHO.

You know Minority Report is the sequel right? Phillip K. Dick wrote total recall and minority report in the same universe, and he wrote minority report to be the sequel. Hollywood decided they could make total recall better, and totally changed it.
I agree with the OP though, it's all in his head.

First total recall then Sherlock, sounds like you are having a bust of a day on Netflix. Maybe step away from the tv and have a nap

I know that opinions can't be right or wrong, but.. You're objectively wrong. Total Recall (1990) was awesome.
Total Recall (2012) was awful.

A man can't write a rambling interpretation of a twenty year old movie without being on medication?
I say to you that you are wrong.

On the level

Nope. Haven't watched any television at all today. Posted this thread before I went to community college.

A person has a right to ramble on, apropos of nothing, about movies and television shows if they want.

This is rant, where the craziest of the crazy come to speak what's on their mind. What's the problem with my text being on the subject of Total Recall?

Perhaps I'm having a schizoid embolism. Maybe I bought one of those vacation memory implants where you just sit around on a computer arguing over movies and televisions.

Yep. That's the part that tells me it's all a dream implant or a brain malfunction.
I read an article that the original movie actors believe it was supposed to be 'real'.
That Quaid really was a spy and on mars.
But I don't see how. That blue sky quote from the start is what tells me it isn't.

If that's the case then he didn't murder anyone. He was in the chair at recall.
Then again he does say he dreamed about Millena before he ever went to recall. Last word.

the blue sky on mars quote mmm well it turns out that mars is not so red after all nasa and the rest all used different filters on the cameras until one day they forgot now look at the pictures from mars and compare them with 20 + years ago mmmm

do you take the red pill or blue pill that one seems to get some mileage over the years life on mars ??

I know the sequel gets a lot of flack but it IS actually closer to the book and it explains the story a lot better, the original gets praise because well it was the original and Arnie is in it.

Philip K Dick is EASILY my favourite author ever.

''We Can Remember It for You Wholesale'' The original title alone explains it a little.

No sir, I'll stand by my take that both sucked equally as well, except the 2nd one swallowed. The first was more a spitter.
