Gearing Up

Was just discussing the with my other half.

We have had a lot of bad weather in the UK as well as many other western countries and it appears to be getting worse.
There was a time when people used to stock up with food, candles, torches etc. Now for years life has been pretty comfortable so people didn't bother getting things "just in case"

Now from our observations a lot of people are now starting to prepare...is something happening in the grand plan that is telling people to get ready..that we will have to rely on ourselves and not the system

I suppose one could say we are all the sum of our total life experience.

Humans are lucky in that those with half a brain and ears can listen and learn.

My generation did not have to go through the great depression yet there were plenty of stories for those who were interested. When my grandmother died and we were cleaning out her house for sale we found a little over $8000 in her sofa and another couple of thousand in her easy chair. Why... because granny saw what it was like to not be able to make a withdrawal from a bank that was closed indefinitely for holiday.. I have ever since tried to keep some cash on me or placed in an area where I could retrieve it.. Never had to but it was always there.. Just like having enough water and food for a few weeks or a month would seem like a good idea to me...

Sometimes it is to late to learn when faced with a problem but if you survive the first go around many will be better prepared the next time.. experience/learning is the master and we are all but students.

I would say get what you think you need, before your unable to get anything ... sounds bad, but look at the markets, the euro/dollar...every type of market around the world is having some kind of problem ... without getting into what all the experts say, because they are from one end of the spectrum to the other on there thoughts...Do what your gut tells you to do.
Your gut instinct is right most all the time. It is far better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it...

That is a good point however what one tends to forget is that after 2007 most Independent/personal investors got out of the finical markets for good. The only investors left are the ones who are betting the companies money or the free money printed each month from the FED.

The world finical markets are still important-but there effect is limited by all the defections after 2007-myself included.

The best investment is, and always was, real estate or simply hording gold.

I was back at my cabin yesterday thinking how some kind of curve needs to be installed. An aging curve as everyday that goes by all this survival gear ,knowledge and experience means less and less.

Practically all men discover after turning 50 that their life long habit of solving problems with brute strength, hardheadedness and manly determination is slipping.

You simply can't run over everything as you have always done. It's time to become a finesse player other than the brute you have always been.

Some of these posts miss the point. In a situation that the OP is speaking of was to happen, No amount of hoarded Money, Gold, Land, or other investment would be of much value to anyone anymore unless the hoarded treasures were basic needs things. myself, i do have a Bug out bag prepared for each member of my household, these kits contain everything one would need to live without modern means, including a 3 day food supply, just in case. Why would a person of a logical mind place their trust in a government that cant seem to solve the simplest of problems? Prepare yourself and hope you never have to go that route. If you don't understand how things like money, gold, and land wont be much help as a currency, i'm sorry, there isn't much i could do for you.

I think we're simply seeing reports of how folks have been stranded, without supplies, and help taking way to long to arrive, etc., so we all kind of realize that the buck stops with each of us, to protect and provide for our loved ones. Even if just having a month of supplies onhand, ANY amount of prepping is a good thing.
