First time I heard "under my thumb" was by Streetheart. When I finally heard the stone's version it left me disappointed.

A cover of a cover which was essentially the heart of a TV show..

All Along the Watchtower by Bear McCreary for Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009 TV series)

Black Sabbath (From the Satanic Perspective) by Type O Negative

Soldier of Fortune by Opeth (cover of Deep Purple song)

Would? by Opeth (cover of an Alice In Chains song)

For the Smashing Pumpkins and Depeche Mode fans, this is a favorite of mine. SP also does an awesome Space Oddities cover but since the band is so far removed from the original by then, I went with this one instead.

Marilyn Manson does several great covers, but his cover of Gary Numan's Down in The Park, is my favorite it very ominous.

Ann Wilson from Heart on vocals is now a sixty something and absolutely nails this version of Stairway To Heaven in front of the remaining members of the band.John Bonham's son Jason on drums and the choir at the end all wearing Bonzo's trademark bowler hat goes beyond genius.Brings me out in goosebumps every time I watch it.

To attempt to cover a legendary song like Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb is VERY VERY brave, but to make it your own like this deserves a good ol' pat on the back.I know a lot of people don't like it,but I'm sure I remember Dave Gilmour saying he liked this version of the song?

You create the best threads!
I'm a Cash fan as well

Some interesting trivia tidbits about this selection--it has been covered in more than 7 languages, and the writer supposedly used the term "sheriff" instead of police to hopefully ward off a govt. fuss...

An original classic & a cover classic; plus a couple of spin-offs:

Original, Bob Marley - I Shot the Sheriff

Classic cover, Eric Clapton

Alpha Blondy with French version & Warren G with spin-off

Haha, we were talking about that earlier... same for us! Streetheart seemed a band before their time.. they needed more access to airplay in the US. At least their "lack" of fame hasn't affected their passion for the music cuz they still look and sound as good as ever. whew.

Thanks for sharing a Cdn musical moment in history

Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful":

Mind you this song holds a special little place in my heart because my hubby played this song to me when we were first dating.

... now I just get to pick up his dirty socks off the floor.

I tried to upload the videos from YouTube, but apparently I don't know how, lol.

Two of my favourite covers are: Megadeath doing Paranoid (Black Sabbath song) on the album 'Nativity in Black'....and, Linkin Park doing Adele's hit 'Rolling in the Deep' (live).

Sorry about the lack of videos, but our furnace quit this morning and I'm a little frosty here waiting for the repairman!
