I am asking here because maybe someone on ATS has the knowledge to share that the general public has not caught onto or is to blind to see. Ill will be happy with myths or things that worked for someone you know. My better half has talked me into low carbing again, and it always works... but i wanna really know if anyone has figured out how to isolate the tricky areas that the fat hangs out. Please keep the jokes to a minimum and if you do not have any idea what to post, post a great low carb recipe that we can all enjoy. Peace out and thanks in advance of course to any responses.

I have found Fat moves off more quickly and returns more quickly on certain areas of myself. I have not however found a way to burn it off of say my stomach but face is probably the hardest to remove. The only thing I have found that works is...

EXERCISE and lots of it 30 minutes a day until I sweat then keep going until I am just about exhausted and just a bit past that where I start to feel a kick of more energy (burning the reserves)...then Rinse and repeat daily resting for a day every 6 or so days. And finally diets do not work portion sizes do!

Eat less MOVE more!

It depends...what's your goal? and what are these "specific" areas you need to trim?

Olympic coach Charles Poliquin believes that fat distribution areas correspond closely with hormonal levels in the body. For example, stubborn fat around the midsection indicates insulin resistance, while fat around the pecs and tris in men indicates lower testosterone levels.

You can achieve some level of spot reduction by increasing bloodflow to that area, but honestly, fat will pretty much come off when it comes off. When your weight loss stalls during your diet (as it always will), you have one of two choices: increase exercise or decrease calories. Decreasing calories can obviously only be done so far, so your first option should be to add in a bit more exercise to "convince" the body to shed that extra fat.

Most of your results will be based not upon the quantity of calories you eat, but upon the quality. Lean Eating by Dr. John Berardi is a good guide towards the kind of foods you want to consume. And here's part two of the series.

Good luck!

There's no way to lose fat in just one spot.

However, if you are going the Ketogenic route to lose weight(High fat, low carb) then it works pretty quickly to get rid of fat. The best ratio is around a 65/30/5 ratio of fat/protein/carb. If you fast for three days that will put your body into ketosis faster.

Also remember that it takes about two weeks for your mind to adjust to ketosis. Lethargy is common during this time even though your body is energized. This is because the body is switching from glucose to ketone bodies. Once the two weeks has passed you will find significant levels of energy and mental clarity. This eventually wears off some and things go back to normal but it is very nice for a little while.

Once on it, just walk an hour everyday. Maybe find some steps and work up to doing 20 minutes of walking up and down them. Either way try your best to get in at least an hour of walking.

Once you've lost general weight/fat, then you can start emphasizing on weightlifting which will tone various areas. If you are a man this will be very easy as men gain muscle faster. If you are a woman just remember to be patient.

I would recommend this website which is free, it has a beginner workout plan for men but works for women as well.

Also he isn't a fan of the ketogenic diets but he has great videos in regard to weightlifting and toning. All free. Awesome site.

scoobysworkshop.com...

Edit: Also in regard to ketogenic recipes here's the breakdown of my favorite daily meal:

Morning: Four eggs, Five sausage links, coffee with half and half and a tablespoon of coconut oil stirred in
Afternoon- Can of tuna in oil or two cans of kipper snacks and a spinach salad with vinegar and olive oil
Evening: Fatty chicken thighs, Cabbage with salt pork

Also of course when you're in ketosis you're thirsty as hell so drinking water is a given on this diet.

There's lots of excersizes to target areas that you want to lose weight at but, its almost impossible to lose weight in one specific area. Usually you can do a excersize that will work out a specific body part or area and it will help the area that u want to lose weight at with combonations of exercises. you really gotta sit down and figure out what works best for you! Hope that made some sense! lol!

As a few members already mentioned I don't think you can lose fat from a specific part of your body. You can exercise and build muscle on a certain area such as abs, legs, butt, etc.

Just eat less and exercise more and drink a lot of water. If you fill your belly with water you'll feel full and be less apt to over eat plus it's just good for digestion.

If you're trying to trim your belly down.

The best way is through exercize and proper diet. Avoiding refined flours, sugar and fats. Cut these down or eliminate altogether will work wonders. It's ok to binge once in awhile, just don't do this daily. Don't gobble food down too quickly because this makes you swallow air. Avoid whipped foods and fizzy drinks ( more air), causes bloating.
I find chocolate is ok for me because it aids in digestion. As does water.

Practice holding your stomache in. Very hard to do at first but if you keep practicing, it will become a habit. I think sitting too much causes cellulite on the thighs and buttocks.

Anyways those are my tips for a flatter tummy. Once you see or feel a difference it will motivate you to keep at it.

I would suggest a ketogenic diet IF you're not into exercise...

Its not very healthy but it works...

I lost 30lbs in 2 months...

Why does this feel like a commercial?

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program

Ketogenic diet is healthy.

There hasn't been a study out there that shows anything but health benefits from high fat, low carb diets.

Not meaning to be annoying but the diet is very beneficial in so many areas. Just google any of these with "Ketogenic"

Weight loss of course, but also:

-Acne
www.karger.com...

-Cancer(although this diet had way too much protein, doesn't seem the researchers knew enough about what ketosis requires. They did however limit carb intake sufficiently)
www.medscape.com...

-Epilepsy
www.epilepsy.com...

-Schizophrenia
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov...

-High Blood Pressure
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov...

These are just examples, you can look up many health problems and see that it's all pointing toward the fact that humans do best living on fat and not carbohydrates.

I am a big fan of this diet. I feel great and because of injuries sit on my behind most of day while I await trying to find a way to get surgery. I still haven't gained too much weight from that and when I was active had a six pack.

If you can tell me specific areas, I can help with some exercises. I learned some site specific exercises for trouble spots that, coupled with a ketogenic diet, worked amazingly well for me.

I also can add the exercises are not cardio intense, they are safe for someone with back problems, as they were designed by a balerina that had been in a car accident. The exercises are intense for the muscle groups they work, but not a strain on the entire body, hence, you can localize. Some of her best are for the hips, thighs, and butt, but the upper arm exercises are great, too. She also has great ones for the core, the abdomen, which if the abdomen is strong, helps to support the spine.

I am a huge believer in modified Atkins. Lots of veggies, ban all carbs, and get only carbs from proteins, eggs, cheeses, and fresh vegetables.

You should eat lots of veggies, greens, and seasonal vegetables. Turn the food pyramid upside down, even a Harvard study proved it was the healthiest way to eat.

Since you have done low carb in the past, you know the obvious benefits.

hm.. I read somewhere it wasn't healthy...

Oh well doesn't matter to me... Honestly the best way to lose weight with exercise is to work your biggest muscles...

there was a time about 15 years ago that I was pretty cut... now im just too lazy to bother

Use a treadmill or go for bike rides to get your thighs burning... work your lats and pecks too... and your butt!

its damn near impossible to get those six pack abs just by doing sit ups and crunches... abs are tiny muscles...

To cut the fat you need to burn the hell out of the biggest muscles in your body... that's the key folks
