I' not really sure which forum this would best fit in; if this isn't it, feel free to move, mods.

Since moving to this area in 1975, I have had a doppelganger who has caused a bit of confusion on more than one occasion!
While taking an evening class at a local community college, people would start talking to me as if they knew me. Being new to the town, my confusion was obvious, and they would apologize, saying they thought I was somebody else.

Three years later, I had met quite a few people in my new home town. It was not unusual for someone I couldn't quite place to say 'hi', maybe engage in a little small talk. Not wanting to be rude, I would try to appear as if I remembered them.

One day, a friend asked why I was so distant at the local all night restaurant at 'bar thirty'. They tried to engage 'me' in conversation as I sat with a group of friends, but 'I' acted like I hardly new them!
I assured my friend that I was not there; I don't drink and was certainly not having breakfast with the bar crowd. I got the impression that my friend thought I was being deceptive......

Instances like this would happen every few months, and then seemed to quit for a couple of years, until......
I broke my left foot, and my HMO required I see a doctor in a neighboring town 30 miles away. As I was walking into the clinic, a man greeted me warmly, asking how the heck I'd been, long-time-no-see, etc. I was keeping up my end of the conversation, trying not to be rude, while desperately searching my memory for who this guy was.
After some polite small talk,I said I needed to get to my appointment. He said he'd noticed I broke my foot again, only it was the other foot last time. He bid me good day, and said not to be a stranger- stop by again soon.
I'd never had a broken bone in my life before this accident, and I got the sense that this man knew 'me' quite well!

About three years later, my doppelganger seemed to have moved back to my home town. People who knew me very well began to have encounters with 'me' again, and would later ask why 'i' was so distant towards them, thinking maybe they had offended 'me' in some way.

I began explaining that I had a doppelganger. The thing I find odd is how we both seem to have a preference for an unusual style of eye-glass frame, and we seem to wear the same hair styles. If I get a new hairstyle, my doppelganger sports the same one!

Four or five years ago, my 'twin' came into a store where my best friend works. After a warm greeting, it became obvious that 'she' wasn't 'me', so my friend told her about the identical resemblance.
It appears that she, too, has been plagued by the same phenomenon, but hadn't considered a doppelganger before.
What I find most unusual is we both have the same name, only she ends hers with an 'E' and I use an 'A'.

I wish my friend had thought to get some contact information. I would love to see my mirror image!

If you have any theories on doppelgangers, or a similar story, I would love to hear it!

P.S. At one time my doppelganger was in a relationship with a person of a different ethnicity, and their public display of affection caused some confusion for one of my friends who witnessed it, since I am very happily married!

Great story!

Most of the time with longer threads I skim through the story but you had me entranced.

It's crazy how this other person visits the same places as you.

Is it you? Do you have a split personality? (r u nuts?)

Just joking. I'm sure you aren't crazy. It is a great story.

I have an actual identical twin and that has caused confused in the past when we both lived in the same area. It was really annoying!

When people would say you have a twin walking around I'd look at them and say yes I'm an identical twin. Most of the time people think I'm joking and I've literally had to show "proof." It's crazy having a walking clone of yourself esp when you couldn't be more opposite.

DO you ever talk to this "twin" of yours?

This is obviously an unfinished story. You two will just have to meet, that's all there is to it. When you do, be sure to take some pics of the two of you together. And please do let us know how this turns out? Intriguing story, OP. S&F.

I had a similar thing happen also at a community college. Two people, a couple maybe in their 30's, came up to me and started talking about something that made no sense to me, when I replied in such a way that they realized I didn't know them they both looked at each other and said.."wow, we have a good friend who looks exactly like you...not kidding... same hair and even the same cloths and voice!"

These people were "good friends of this person". They still thought I was her while talking directly to me, they had come up from behind me, so here is the thing. I am not a usual looking person, also I have always dressed very different than the average person a personal style. I had long hair at that time almost to my knees, it had natural streaks of red, light and dark auburn and blonde, very unusual hair. Most people I met had said they had never seen hair like mine.

Now add that my voice was like hers. Somehow maybe I had a twin I never knew about, if only I had made the suggestion that I meet their friend! Sadly I will never know now I did not even ask her name nor give mine...lost opportunities! I moved far away soon after.

I once read a study done of twins separated at birth who did not know about each other. Often the twins even if born in another state ended up moving into the same areas. They even married people with the same names and named their pets the same. it is as though being apart and not trying for individualism, they become as one, they eat the same food and buy the same brands, have the same number of kids etc.

Hi nugget1!
I have doppelganger stories too!

Years ago, in the city I used to live in, I was dating the man who would become my first husband. The local newspaper showed a picture of a couple sitting on a picnic table in one of the large popular city parks (human interest story about people enjoying the nice weather).

People that worked with my boyfriend posted the picture on a bulletin board at his workplace...assuming it was us. The people looked EXACTLY like both of us, and the female, legs crossed...was holding her foot up at an angle that is not 'natural'...a thing that I do!
What's even stranger, is that beside the picnic table was a motorcycle....the exact same motorcycle that my boyfriend had at the time.

It wasn't us. We weren't at the park recently, and also....I had never been on the bike with him.
For quite a while friends mentioned seeing us in the paper. I always thought it was....strange...lol.

Now I'm living in another city, and have been told I have an exact twin here too. I've never run into her, but people around here have seen "me" at different times, and later asked why I didn't say "hi". Apparently 'she' works at a doctor's office, and one day I got really curious and went to the office. It was closed. I took that as a sign that I wasn't supposed to see her.

Looking forward to reading other peoples' experiences! (S&F...interesting thread)

The next time someone mistakes you for this "doppelganger", just ask them :" who do you think I am?".
Someone MUST know the gal's complete name/phone number etc. so you can set up a meeting.

I accidentally photographed mine once in another city. Same haircut same clothes I like to wear. I showed someone the photo and they were like hey who took this photo cause there you are over there? I was perplexed to this day! Because even they swear it was me, but I was behind the camera...

Until I realized I had a doppelganger, I'm sure some acquaintances thought I might be schizophrenic!

I'm positive that the person who saw 'us' did not believe it wasn't me. He was a daily customer where I worked.

Thank goodness my husband KNOWS how much I love and adore him!

Cool story and fairly common, I guess, from the stories I've personally heard... in fact I have a dop, too.

Same thing, people approaching me like they knew me, friends asking what I was doing where and why I was so dismissive... happened once a week in my teens and twenties and then I saw him...

I was driving home and saw my twin driving from the opposite direction on the road. Same color and make car, same hair, same hipster, quirky sunglasses... even looked like he was wearing the same darned shirt I had picked up at a thrift store because it was so loud and unusual, but I wasn't wearing at that moment... I got a hair or two raised on my neck and I didn't follow him because ... well, because I was too creeped out. I was half sure he'd pull into my house and then I'd lose it for real.

Anyway, this faded out and I haven't had anyone mention "him" for years. I can't say it was supernatural, and I know people have look-alikes, but this was a tad unnerving.

We have never met, but I have often wondered what would happen if we did.Would I recognize 'myself''? Would it be like looking in a mirror?

My friends are on the lookout for her.
She hasn't been spotted for a couple of years now, so I'm thinking she may have moved back to the outlying college town where my 'foot' doctor was located.

Now THAT is an intriguing story! There is a member of our city counsel that is a 'dead ringer' for a man I once worked with, and there is another city counsel SO many look-alike people here!
