Lone Survivor - any one see it yet?

Hubby and I plan on standing in line to watch Lone Survivor matinee. Been told the crowds have been thick and other movies cancelled so more repeats could be shown. It must be an impressive movie. Will let you know my opinion tomorrow.

Almost the usual gung-ho "America's great" type flick, but not quite.

Amazing how most are smart enough to see the atrocities/war crimes committed by the US military in those far off lands, but put out a movie with a famous actor and heroic story line...reality disappears with the popcorn.

Watched half, seen where it was going... *poof*...gone.

Left my popcorn which was my biggest regret.

My daughter went to see the movie last night and said it was AMAZING! There were a few scenes where the entire audience broke out in applause. I plan to see the movie sometime this week.

You new what the movie was about and paid to see it. Just because you want to look cool and pretend you didn't like it doesn't mean you have to lie and pretend you walked out. Heck, I bet you even watched It twice.

I watched it at home and thought how brave those guys where and wished I had half the guts they did knowing they were most likely going to die.

You claim you watched half of this film , so please tell me what part was propaganda?

The opening montage shows the real life selection and training of SEAL's including many that were in the film which you probably didn't realize.

It then moves into telling of the bond that warfare creates among those who have gone through it. I don't expect you to understand that bond and that is okay. It makes no difference who the enemy is facing death creates that scenario.

My father was a fireman while my uncle was the Chief in another towns fire department. I grew up in that setting spending many nights around a different group of brothers. During down time they would bond and speak to each other in a similar manner. My uncle died with 2 other firemen trying to rescue 3 children they never knew and I can tell you at each of their funerals the other men in his department apologized to each of the families for not being there for their brothers when they needed them most. Again, I don't expect you to understand that bond and I only know it from the outside looking in. If you don't believe me then feel free to PM me and Ill give you all the articles and links to the scenario I mention above.

Next it goes on to show the chaos that is warfare. How the best laid plans fall apart when comm systems and the tools of the trade fail. This is applicable in any field where complex operations take place. It doesn't matter if you are a surgeon , an auto mechanic or a network engineer. Things can and will go horribly wrong at some point and all you can deal with is what is right in front of you.

Finally it goes on to show the immense power that local customs have in places like Afghanistan and how those customs can change lives no matter the cost.

The only regret you should have had was that you took a seat that someone else who wanted to be there could have used.

Not really sure how much of a Propaganda Film this is (besides the "Letting the Sheppard and his Sons Live Part) but it sure does show sense of how much our Resources were spread out when we had 4 Seals sitting there waiting for maybe 1 or 2 Apaches to escort some Helis for a rescue.

Other than that, a very intense Movie and if the real Seals in this situation went through half of the stuff they show in this Movie to stay alive they are real Bad Asses.

Saw the movie. I was impressed with the realism. I applauded and I cried. I wanted to yell out "kill all the bastards", but then I have to recall we are in their country. The military goes into situations like this on orders and they loyally follow through. I was reminded of the inefficient communications; lack of logistical support and interference from the upper echelon that our brave men and women have to put up with. On top of it all, their benefits are being cut and our senate has 66 millionaires and the house has over 170 millionaires. The Gates book points out the lack of respect from the Commander in Chief and Vice Pres. There is so much wrong and I see no way to overcome. May God Bless and our prayers be answered. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it.

If by propaganda you mean the film highlighted some major command structure flaws that led to the deaths of over a dozen men while showing that the core squad is left to hang in the wind and make the best out of an insurmountable situation then sure ill go along with that. The only atrocity I saw was these guys acting like human beings and not taking the easy way out which directly led to multiple American deaths. It also gives you a drastically different view of afghan civilians than what you would normally hear or see. For me, it was a little difficult to watch at times but only because it brought back way too many memories of things I had hoped long ago to never think about again.

I saw it and I thought it was good.

You will definitely not be disappointed.

^ Very well put my friend. I had the great privilege to watch this film earlier tonight. I was shocked at how emotional this film truly was. The crowd watching in my particular showing was racked with emotional stress. Even I couldn't shake being choked up from one point of the movie to the next. I did NOT shed a tear, although I had to look away several times staring at my lap in utter shame and confusion.


Operation Red Wings and the Loss of Spartan 1can be researched further. You will find inaccuracies in the HollyWood screenplay but what do you expect. From what I gathered the final battle in the Afgan Village never happened. The reason being the Taliban could not afford losing the support of their local villagers and killing a hundred of their own.

There are finely woven inaccuracy's but it certainly does NOT take away from the films message nor the viewer experience.

Best film I have watched in years! Yes YEARS!!!
