Austin Hatch, a 19-year-old Michigan recruit who has survived two plane crashes, returned to the court Wednesday night for the first time in three seasons and drained a three-pointer on his very first shot for Loyola High School of Los Angeles.
His teammates and fellow students were so happy for him that they immediately stormed the floor and were given a technical foul in the fourth quarter of Loyola's 87-59 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
Eight years after he and his dad walked away from a 2003 crash that killed his mother, 11-year-old sister and 5-year-old brother, Hatch had to cope with another eerily similar tragedy. His dad was flying the family between its Indiana home and a Michigan summer house in June 2011 when the small, single-engine plane plummeted nose-first into a garage along a residential street north of Charlevoix Municipal Airport, killing Hatch's father and stepmother and critically injuring him.

what are the odds to be in a plain crash, i guess pretty small if you are not a jetfighter, maybe the dad thought the odds of a second crash would be even smaller
