'Heroic ' student killed stopping suicide bomber at high school in Pakistan

Tributes were paid Thursday to a high school student who officials say foiled a suicide bomb attack in an act of “bravery” that cost him his life. Aitazaz Hassan, 17, was killed instantly - but police and school officials said the lives of up to 1,500 other students at the school in Pakistan had been saved. "My son did a heroic job and I am proud of his bravery,” said the boy’s grieving father, Mujahid Ali. The teenager challenged the would-be bomber at the school entrance, said Lal Baz Ali, principal of the state-run Ibrahimzai High School, in the Hangu district of Pakistan’s volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region.

The word hero fits this young man to a T. His father has every right to be proud of him and the school should either be renamed after him or at least a monument should be built at the school. And I find it sickening that the government hasn't contacted the family and expressed their condolences.

No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.

And yet, strangely, the bombers' family probably consider HIM a hero for giving up his life in an act of martyrdom against infidels or apostates of true Islam. Why do they call them 'suicide' bombers anyway? Their intention is to kill as many people as possible with their own death. Surely 'homicide bomber' would be more truthful.

And I do wonder if you'd say the same thing if this had been a pizza parlour in downtown Jerusalem, buster.

When a person committing the act kills himself while doing it is called a suicide like the kamikaze pilots in WW2. If the bomb were delivered and then detonated that would be a homicidal bomber. Something that simple shouldn't have to be explained. What part of Jerusalem are you talking about the half that is illegally occupied by Israel? Or the half that legally belongs to Palestine. When it comes to claim jumpers I think the old west way of dealing with them is the best way.

Prior to 1967 I don't remember it ever being part of palestine. It was, after all, under Jordanian rule. I therefore assumed it was technically part of trans jordan, a country whose borders were determined by an outside source rather than self determined.
So, the half that was part of Jordan or the half that was never part of palestine? It's a long time since the romans were there.
