Now that de Blasio is in charge, a grassroots group that works to stop traffic deaths and push back "against driver entitlement" is trying to keep the new mayor's promise to "reduce serious injuries and fatalities" caused by traffic accidents "to zero" by 2024.
It will also announce each death on its Twitter account, @VisionZeroClock.
Will this really help people from getting killed?

But, hey, who am I to deny a politician the joy of having "done something."

The problem is traffic patterns, enforcement, weather conditions and stupid people. Mostly stupid people- driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, pedestrians wearing earbuds blaring loud music while tapping on a phone and walking blindly into traffic (I've seen in dozens of times); over the summer I watched, from the comfort of my kitchen, a cyclist furiously texting drive her bike square into a traffic sign. A death clock won't fix this behavior (which isn't limited to cell phone use by the way).
