The television shows currently being broadcasted about "Rednecks" and "Hillbillies" is the beginning of front line programming against gun wielding, liberty revering, God fearing Christians.

Phil Robertson's little stunt with homosexuality, blacks, and God is just the beginning of this. Any television network knows that his remarks could have cost them the show. A & E however is owned by Disney, Disney is a massive proponent of homosexuality and gay rights.

His stunt was planned out by Disney to create racial and sexual tension between "Rednecks" and "Hillbillies" and Africans and Gays.

In time these gun wielding red necks will symbolize liberty revering, God fearing Christians as a method of programming the simple minded sheep to launch an attack on Christianity, gun rights, and your rights.

I think it might be more about making the people they're featuring feel better about themselves, and their place in society.

Like I said before, there is a reason why evangelist christians are high on the list of potential domestic terrorists. They are disenfranchised not because they're rednecks, but because they're generally poor, as are the other types of poor people in this country.

On the first part of your post I would rather say that the vast majority of americans out there can relate because they are rural, semi-rural or have at least on foot in the country one way or another. Just a large market of viewers

As far as a certain type of christian being on the list, rural again comes to mind for the most part. Rural folk like no other understand from their simple life roots what a bunch of meddling, self important and dangerous folks gravitate toward government. So naturally control freaks in power are uneasy with the ease with which country folks spout off about the government. Government types never ask themselves, look in the mirror, why are the american rural folks buying up guns and ammo?

I'd say all thing being equal, this is probably the most likely scenario.

There are all kinds of divisive tactics being used against us right now that are designed to make the divides between us deeper, and set us against one another.

It seems to me that a huge rush of these shows comes in after one of them does well in the marketplace. That being said, as a people, we tend to have a fascination with "the other" in differing capacities, especially when watching television. It's the similar to watching shows about different cultures on the History Channel or wherever. The "hillbilly" stereotype is just someone who is different than the vast majority of us, and in a lot of cases makes people feel better and more confident in their city existence.

Interestingly enough, Here in the UK we have had a wave of "Reality" TV programs about those who claim benefits. I'd recommend watching "Benefits Street" which has caused a huge amount of controversy over here.

That sounds very similar to what I was on about and it wouldn't surprise me if it took a very similar format. If something works in the TV industry it is cloned a million times.

The exec's who put these shows on aren't looking to celebrate the culture here and show the good stuff, they are looking to get people to laugh at them and show the worst that our place has to offer and portray it as the "norm". A lot of people here know this and don't like them coming here. If I see a camera crew here then I know they're out to make us a laughing stock. Why? Because they are threatened by us. That's why they spread the lies saying that we're all "dumb" or "inbreeding".

I just wonder how it would be perceived if a camera crew, who are from a rural place, went to New York and followed around a jewish family and show the worst that they have to offer? Rhetorical.

I have an interesting observation for you ATA.

It was relatively recently on this very forum : I was talking in a thread about my youngest daughter. She is gifted and several of us were just speaking casually about getting our kids into activities with other gifted kids. One of our members spoke to me as if I was a moron and didnt know how to deal with a gifted kid. You see, Im from New Orleans originally. I went to college at Ole Miss.. Masters degree in Science. I also have an RN with emergency medical specialty, and I also most recently worked at the prosecuting attys office. Im older.. you can have more than one career in a lifetime. Imagine that. She was speaking about MENSA this and MENSA that as if a bohunk from the South didnt know what MENSA was. Both my husband and I are Mensans, but my middle daughter is a Promethian. I mentioned the Promethians and the poster said she had seen the Promethians standing off to the side, blah blah blah. I hated to tell her that Promethians have a MUCH stricter IQ limit than MENSA and with only certain IQ tests. She said something to the effect that I went to Ole Miss and the standards must be less! LOL! Ole Miss is one of the top rated science and research universities in the country... but since its located in Mississippi.. I guess Im simply a backward Southern moron who got a degree so I can add and subtract. Hyuk-hyuk.. I shore to liek to red bookz !!

When I moved to the Northern Midwest, I did have an accent which I quickly found was great for getting dates, but not so much for a job. They looked at me like some moron.. regardless of my education and abilities! I lost the accent as much as I could due to very very judgemental "Northerners".
I personally resent a lot of these hillbilly shows because they capitalize on the uneducated "wrong side of the tracks" type of things... just perpetuating stereotypes. Stereotypes effect your job and everything else in your life when people get it in their heads WHAT and WHO you are by allowing themselves to be programmed by TV.

The Ivy Leaguers and Boston blue-bloods have long held Southerners in contempt probably due more to French and Spanish influences than anything else. The Northeast is still the financial center of the US and as they would like to think the intellectual center too.

It's funny because I was born in the South, lived in NY while growing up then moved back South so my accent will change depending on who I'm speaking with. I also enjoy studying the regional dialects and trying to guess where people are from by their speech. It's helps to be a bit of a chameleon to get people to open up a little, they tend to trust those from their area more than others for some reason.

Of course the stigma works both ways, when I moved back to Virginia after living in NY kids didn't trust me. I had to relearn my Southern drawl to fit in but that was back in the 70's. Virginia has been so thoroughly infiltrated with Yankees now I see the local accent dying out and it's a shame. Our race in to the future is leaving so much behind and at a frightening pace. The things we once associated with home and locality are vanishing - our language, culture, architecture, music, crafts etc. etc. It's all getting homogenized and getting blander with each passing year. It's truly one of the saddest and most heart-rending things I ever encountered and few even notice it happening.

The family on my father's side were some of the earliest settlers in Texas and in one cemetery are buried 150 years of my ancestors. Originally it was a cemetery plot on a ranch that has since been broken up and sold off. Now the cemetery sits alone next to a subdivision of several hundred houses. To think at one a single family owned 600 acres and sent their sons to fight in every war since the Mexican War and now none of the family lives on the original land but are scattered everywhere from Texas to NY to Alaska. Kind of says it all.

You will never understand unless you are A redneck. I am a proud redneck. Being A redneck is fun! My brother that is a computer guru at a huge company and he is a redneck. Some funny stuff happens at his house. A redneck will always say, "Watch this $hit" right before something bad happens. We laugh a lot and don't want any drama. Alan Jackson is a redneck you can associate with. He is a redneck!

Now don't confuse us with hillbilly's, they are not the same. Or Honey Boo Boo I wouldn't say what we call them.

We love our hunting, fishing, love being on the Chattahoochee and, some love beer drinking, if is down right hot we jump in the lake with all our clothes on and just them dry on their own on our body. We still have family reunions and the food is better than anyone on tv. We laugh, love and enjoy our lives. Make fun of each other and laugh with each other. We fear GOD Almighty.

We work through problem on the front porch or the dinning room table. I look just like you and in a business environment we are still just like you. Maybe we re just more laid back and we know money is not the road to happiness. It is a great thing!

I didn't know about Duck Dynasty till about 3 months ago I started watching and saw us. Mama and Daddy's home is open to all except Yankees LOL well not the whole truth I have some Yankee Cousins. they are crazy and wish they lived here.

Us yankees are rednecks too. Why the hate?

We hunt, fish, play in the creek, ride quads and dirt bikes, pretty much everything you said, we just live a bit north of ya.

Hell, last night I bolted some boat seats on a truck hood to pull around on the quad in the foot of snow we just got. And yes, beer was and will be involved!

Oh yeah, my grillin' is better yhan your grillin'(we take cookin' serious 'round here).

No hate just a family joke. Sorry about that no offense meant.
My hubby and I both have worked with Northerner's and they are much more easy to deal with than southerner's. A person in the north you will talk for 50 minutes about work and 5 minutes on family. A person in the south will talk 50 minute about family and 10 minutes about work and then want a deal!

The word redneck came from southern farmers that plowed fields and their necks were red. They had to wear shirts to protect them from the sun, that is a true redneck. We have expanded it. But my dad has plowed fields as soon as he was old enough to handle the mules, after that he went into the Air Force. Out of 14 children 7 served in wartime. The rest was girls or too young.

The term redneck comes from union halls in the early 1900 as a way of distinguishing those who wore red bandana to signify an allegiance with the more liberal members of the union-who wanted to allow Blacks, China men and the Irish into the unions to reduce their dues. Of course, the minorities got nothing but less pay.

The term has never been a part of Appalachian folklore, which is rooted in Cherokee and Biblical influences, along with the arrival of poor Europeans.

It has always been a city term that was loosely applied to 'crackers' of Appalachian folklore who were too poor to own a mule and therefore had to pull their own plows. The strain of the knotted plowline rubbed and cracked their back and made their neck red.
