Polonium is what they used in the coating but you are very close I think as far as your plasma ideas.
People hear plasma and think light sabers and blasters and really it is much more refined
Granted there can be an air glow and it can even look like liquid fire.
But there is so ything that uses plasma in the shape of a little ball for ECM use and it can look very `ufo`
This whole RID thing is so convoluted with story telling and osi/others messing with people's head that I don't think there will ever be a clear answer as to what happened that night, at least in our life times.
It was 100% ours and the people who went to assist the crash were ordered to keep a secured are a around it and not to go close but they didn't follow orders and saw something they wouldn't have seen.
OR I and other agencies like the DIA will use any and all methods to secure truly black programs and seeing as these men were in the military it allowed them even more latitude with their methods

Time for a Potter's Wheel break? For the sake of my own clarity if nothing else, here's my extremely rough mini-summary of the story so far...
The first night, after something is seen falling from the sky (most likely the fireball), Lt Buran sends three men into British jurisdiction in case an aircraft had crashed. If lights could still be seen in the forest from the base, Ridpath's lighthouse theory doesn't yet fit since it only applies to the 'landing' area's vantage point.
The three men track lights in the forest until reaching an open field whereupon they spot the lighthouse and return to base. The lighthouse was definitely one source of light from the POV of the forest 'landing area'; the farmer's house lights may have been a secondary source. Buran asks for statements, no consternation or fuss. One witness elaborates upon his original story when later meeting Halt, adding the 'triangular craft'.
The second night, Lt Bonnie Tamplin is freaked by a blue light she claimed passed through her vehicle. Sent home to the USA. No further info.
The third night, claims of strange lights around a 'strange' mist cause Halt and a team to enter the forest, track a red orb to the farmer's field where it splits, followed by lights high in the sky sending down beams near or onto the base.
About 3.30am, Halt returns to base whilst the beams continue. For years it was the end of the story UNTIL Halt finally admitted he allowed Burroughs and Bustinza to 'chase' a blue light. No further official information. Even whilst beams were still shining down.
Larry Warren claims his BIG EVENT occurred at that time since he returned to base at about 4am, despite not remembering the journey back.
On 9th January 1981, LaPlume at the East Gate reports a large craft. Halt, Williams and family, plus others gleefully rush there in the hope of seeing a UFO. They're disappointed. LaPlume not impressed by their joviality.
Four days later, Halt sends a memo to the MOD - if he and Williams had managed to witness LaPlume's alleged craft, how differently would things have panned out?
Penniston continues building his own spectacular story in the intervening years, inviting disdain and ridicule. Warren's story is more or less dismissed, his co-author abandons him.
Burrough's DNA is pursued.
Today, Halt says he knows far more than he is willing to reveal.

We now resume normal thread discussion.

How do we fit that scenario into events that occurred over 3 separate nights. If a crash was contained on night one then what went to explain the two further nights?
You've also got the further complications that US troops should not be operating on UK land without due cause. To date no one has explained why the US Air Force felt it could send troops, vehicles and lightalls into the forest on the third night without some form of agreement of UK authorities.

LaPlume was convinced that Larry Warren was purposefully mind-screwed by the intel community. Keep in mind who he was chumming around with when he got to Merc School. A place where you lie and pay for it.

As far as who had jurisdiction within the forest, could we simply put that down to the time of year it was? Christmas, and the timescales of an expected response?
Or that indeed was a blacker than black US asset and much easier to go get it without asking than have to explain to the UK authorities what they were actually doing?

Depending on who says what that's reasonably accurate.
Except LaPlume's sighting was later in January than the 9th. According to Georgina Bruni's book it was the 16th & 17th Jan 1981. There's a reasonably accurate timeline here : bentwaters1980.proboards.com...

Bentwaters notified UK police (as protocol dictated) on the first night reporting a suspected aircrash and they were rendering possible assistance [morning 26th Dec]. The Suffolk Police eventually attended at 4:30am approx. after being diverted on another call. They also returned later that morning to view the supposed 'UFO landing site'. This would be deemed 'just cause'. As there was nothing at the landing site later on the morning of the 26th December then there's seems no 'just cause' for the USAF to continue operations off base without once again notifying UK authorities. Perhaps precisely because there was nothing at the landing site the morning of 26th.
Halt initially left the Xmas party to debunk and 'end the nonsense', preferably by not notifying UK authorities for fairly obvious reasons, ie no further egg on their faces. It just got a LOT weirder than expected.
He may have been a bit drunk, too - never thought about that!

What gets me though is, if this was a USAF asset, then why the exposure over so many nights?
Very much like the witchita sighting and images, it was meant to be seen, stuff like that does not leak into the white or grey world on purpose or accidently. So why more exposure than needs be over more than one night at Rendlesham?
Unless that was the point, it was test of its capabilities...
Few nights before, with the odd power cuts over the area possibly due to a weapons or countermeasures testing and then a few days later testing on personell in the field...or should that be forest!
IF this was the case, it would explain away a few issues...albeit far simply and nicely....
Mist in the forest and glowing objects through some sort of plasma induced stealth systems, blue "lasers", red orbs as a result of said stealth. Radioactive measurements within the forest that still reside there today due to the RAM coating...thz based?????????? Something to explain the injuries and radiation exposure...the reasons for the apparent debrief and the lengths that were supposedly taken, the USAF guy flying in not long after........
