The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a man in his 20s was shot Friday night inside the Queen subway station and rushed to hospital.
ccording to a statement issued by the SIU, police officers were investigating a man on a TTC subway car around 8 p.m. when the shooting took place.
“There was interaction between the man and the police,” the statement reads, adding that the man was subsequently hospitalized with gunshot wounds and was in stable condition late Friday night.
Maria Silva saw a group of people running into Eaton Centre from the subway station and asked one woman what had happened. The woman she spoke to said that she saw the shooting while standing on the platform at Queen Station.
She described a man “holding the train hostage,” said Silva. Officers were yelling at him, “Put the gun down, put the gun down,” she said.
When she heard several shots ring out, the woman began to run, said Silva.
“She was in shock, so I was trying to console her,” she said. “It happened so fast. She just ran.”
