Death toll is currently at least 4. Thames barrier has been closed to prevent flooding, and Great Yarmouth has been evacuated, as biggest storm surge in 60 years has been predicted. In Netherlands, Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier has been closed for the first time in 60 years to prevent storm surge on low lying areas. School lessons have been cancelled in Hamburg, and airline companies have cancelled many flights. The Oeresund road bridge between Sweden and Denmark has been closed from traffic.

Ocht its just a wee bit ay a wind ken

I've seen far worse wind than this , im talking gale force wind that draws the air away from your mouth as you breath and stops you from putting one foot in front of the other

this is mild in comparison to some storms I've seen before
Glasgow was a nightmare last night as the trains stopped
everyone who normally travels by train had to go by bus
and what normally takes me 10 minutes by train from Central to Crosshill
took me 1:30 minutes by bus

it was so busy

In Ayrshire..(Ayr) we had a fair bit of damage...main concern was the fallen trees. There were 40-50 foot waves clearing the harbour defence walls at Newton....Couldnt resist grabbing the camera..

have you ever tried english food? They need to learn how to cook! No wonder Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsy moved to the US. They couldn't be caught dead there.

What is wrong with you Spartacus, have you been on your home made brew again?

Ok, might not be a big issue where you live but the countries that may/are being affected by this storm are pretty small scale compared to where you probably live so the damage and effects are increased somewhat.

I often enjoy reading some of your posts but in this thread you have pushed it a little far methinks?

Let us all know when your hangover has gone.

Kindest respects

Rodinus

Well I'm talking from experience. I was at a hilton hotel in england in a major city. I ordered room service and for a hefty price I got a rubbery steak and potato chips as the side. Like potatochips!!! LOL it's insane! Besides I'm just joking around.... my goal is to get a rise out of people. I push the envelop that's my job, to get a rise out of people. and or if it's serious then get them thinking outside the box. Otherwise who would care to read what you have to say on a forum like this.

No real storm damage here in Groningen. So we pretty much survived another storm again. But as i said before, the other storm that came by a couple of weeks (six wees I think) ago was much more destructive than these winds we had here the past days. Today a lot of rain, and still a very cold wind. But generally this is pretty normal weather for this time of the year when I compare it to other years in the past.

It was weaker than expected, and also it weakened fast. The winds didn't really come here, just few centimeters of snow.

I lived in north Texas for many years, having moved from the Pacific NW. The one thing I never got used to was the schizophrenic weather in the winter. Our first year there, I played 2 rounds of golf the fay before Thanksgiving. It was in the 80's. Thanksgiving Day it was cool and cloudy. Black Friday brought frigid temp's and 4" of ice.

I'm back in the Pacific NW now, it's about 20 outside right now, but I know how this plays out.

There are things I miss about Dallas, but winter is not one of them.

It was spectacular. I think I have never seen lightning in December here. Till now.
It looks like the solar maximum is endowing us with some extra electricity but be aware of the fact that solar dynamo is slowing down - chanceful doomporn
