CONDOLEEZZA Rice, US President George W. Bush's pick as the next secretary of state, will not travel to Chile for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum summit, as she is to undergo minor surgery, an administration source said today.
Mr Bush, who was scheduled to travel to Santiago tomorrow before paying a brief visit to Colombia, will be accompanied by Stephen Hadley, whom he named Tuesday to succeed Ms Rice as national security adviser.
Ms Rice, 50, will undergo minor surgery tomorrow that does not require general anesthesia, the official said on condition of anonymity.
