Sorry I cant help you out but I wanted to mark this thread and see if any scientist types might come to your aid .I have heard that the earth does rotate and I have a tendency to believe it but seeing we have some that think we should fly to Mars and other worlds a simple film of our earth rotating would be neat to look at ..I can only assume that it might have to be filmed from the moon ....S&F

Hi OP!

I am wondering if there is actually any real time footage of the earth doing a full revolution of 360 degrees.

To record such a film would mean obviously that it has to be done from a view point where the whole of the earth is visible to the camera; the camera would need to be well out there to fit the earth into the frame.

The point from which the filming is done would necessitate it being a static viewing point maintained for a period of 24 hours.

The craft carrying the camera would have to be both far enough away and to remain in exactly the same space for 24 hours. Is it possible for a craft to be piloted and remain completely static in space?

Also it would take 24 hours to watch the film in real time; it would be very slow indeed. It could be speeded up to say 1440 times and could be watched in a minute.

This is a 500 frame time lapse showing a 25 hour rotation period occuring December 11-12 1990 of Earth taken by NASA's Galileo spacecraft at a distance of 1.3 million miles from Earth.
