Should Major Paranormal Events Have an Expiration Date?

I was doing some reading on the Roswell incident the other day and thought to myself, "what a mess!". Its been over 60yrs!!! I think we can all agree on the fact that something did indeed crash but as to what....who knows? Now people have their theories and what not but I'm fairly certain that we can learn nothing more from researching it. Stick a fork in it. Its done.

So what about other events? Hmmmmm......what about the Kennedy assassination? 50 yrs ago. Can we learn anything else other than theories? I don't see the truth coming out. Its so convoluted by now that its hard to choose which conspiracy you agree with. I think its expired.

The Patterson film. 1967 I believe. 46 years ago (please feel free to correct my math and dates. I'm going by memory). This film has been studied, recreated and scrutinized by hundreds of people. Is it real? Is it fake? There's no clear answer. I believe its fake but for every argument there is a counter argument. So what's the use. I think its expired.

I think a "paranormal" event older than 40yrs should be put to rest. Memories fade. Stories change. Witnesses die. Legends grow. Look at Mothman. I lump it in the same category. Don't get me wrong. I love reading about these cases. I just take it with a grain of salt.

Thats a well written OP but my answer to your question is no they should not. Even if they were somehow given an expiry date there will still be other people wanting to get to the truth of these events. I bet a lot, if not the majority of folks here on ATS weren`t even born when Roswell occurred but their desire (and mine) to know the truth is still every bit as strong as of those people who were around at the time of the crash. Imagine been around to witness the smoking gun evidence being presented to show that the CIA assinated JFK and it was indeed the driver who shot him or there is little green men living under Antartica and yes they had a crash landing in New Mexico just after take off for Sirius.



No i think a heck of a lot of people like myself find the world much more of an interesting place with these unexplained mysteries flying about, wether its pyramids being built 5000 years ago or strange noises from the skys a couple of years ago. Its all a bit of fun mostly and i just hope one day no matter how long it will be, some of these mysteries can be answered with 100% proof, especially if the answer is one of your own theories on the events.

Thanks for replying!! Let's say John Doe just celebrated his 21st birthday and his very pretty girlfriend, Jane Buck, gets him the book "the day after Roswell". After reading it he wants to be then first person to solve the mystery. Im talking about he wants to find 100% who, what, when, where and even why. He's going to be famous. A millionaire for uncovering the truth. So he puts on his brown researchers hat and begins to do some research. Is he going to uncover anything new that hasn't been found yet? Now its okay to read and research. But for him to find something new?

Its not that older subjects should be stopped investigated but there is a limit of practicality. Take the case of the Mary Celeste, people still talk about and search for the 'Truth' but no one is going to find a whistle-blower/insider/hacker to blow the lid off. Any new leads are most likely to be found in more antiquarian modes like finding a bunch of bones and personal effects on some random mini island.

Things like the assassinations of the Kennedys (Kennedies?) and Roswell are still pertinent to the state of the world today and should still be 'worked on' until there is a more complete and known set of facts. Also, the ramification of the recent past can still affect the near future.

That's not to say that those are the only ones that need attention. The goal should be a full, unbiased knowledge for all fields and schools of thought. Perhaps when the macroscopic becomes the microscopic man will become a god.

Yes, but what if John Doe went off on his investigations and found top secret, never before seen documents from a top FBI Roswell investigator sent to the president of the US of A saying something on the lines of,

Mr President we have a problem, our Grey visitors have crashed shortly after take off heading back to Sirius. They crashed in New Mexico and there were a lot of witnesses and even the local media are onto the story, what actions should we take?

And along side this document was a hand written and signed letter from the President stating,

Tell the witnesses they saw a weather balloon, and i mean TELL those witnesses they most DEFINATELY saw a weather balloon. As for our visitors, destroy the dead and take the livnig back to there HQ at Area 51.

Now John Doe has the irrefutable proof of the whole cover up and goes onto release it to the public.

As redboxin says the ramifacation of the recent past can still affect the near future.

Or as i would put it a smoking gun piece of evidence from anywhere in the past could alter humans whole belief systems right from the moment that smoking gun is found.

The point of the OP is that if such a letter existed it would have been found. After so many years and so many hours of research, what new evidence is going to be discovered? Basically zero. Then there is the fact that the people who could verify the evidence is real and not a fake are all dead. So any "new" evidence may be a whole lot newer.

Imagine one day we excavated the ground under the sphinx and it unearthed blue prints for a stargate to travel through the universe. And it worked, wouldn`t our interest in mysteries older than 40 years be worth it???

Or there is nothing left to discover. Take JFK for example. There are probably 20 different theories, with people all convinced theirs is right. Problem is that they can't all be right. If you want to think there are stargates in Egypt go for it.

The rendlesham Forrest incident happened in 1980. That's 33yrs and what have we learned? Did something land in the Forrest? I really don't know. I think this case has peaked and has nothing more to offer.

One should also understand; If we quit looking, we will never find the answer.

Betty and Barny Hill were abducted in the 1960's. One might think the same about their case, but: his thread is fairly recent, and much new information is there.
