No conspiracies here. Thread will bomb for sure! But, is there a conspiracy? How could choral arrangements have been so good in the 60s, and have gotten so lax today? Sure, this is not an issue that will save or destroy the world, but as a break from all the doom, I'm going to listen to some religious-pop compositions by Alice Parker!

This PDF contains a wealth of knowledge...

We did one of these in church today. Let me try to find it on Youtube:

Can't. Must be a rare one. "Sing To The Lord" based on "Dunbar's Creek."

Some consolation prizes:

Those are spirituals.

My favorite by her; a Spanish Christmas song; well worth a listen...

There is much, much more. She is truly an American icon.

I will be digging through this for a while. Her style has been a major influence on my own choral writing.

Thanks for sharing. I don't think ATS has to be doom all the time... I for one like this site because it has all kinds of stuff NOT being shouted about by the main stream media, including posts like this.

Just me. I tend to post esoteric musical stuff on CT sites.

When I posted this thread on another site (not another CT site, my site for pipe smokers), ran across a member who actually sang once under Robert Shaw's direction when he was a kid; pretty cool...
