Brain-fixing machine in Ender’s Game is a real open-source surgical robot.

The futuristic robot that probes brains in Ender’s Game is no futuristic fantasy. The real-life machine, known as the Raven II surgical system, was built at the University of Washington and has already been used in brain tumor operations. The National Science Foundation has funded development of seven of these open-source robots, and they will soon be distributed to cutting edge medical facilities across the US.

This is fascinating, It never ceases to amaze me how tomorrow's science fiction becomes todays science fact. Now all we need are some medical nanobots to accompany this device and i imagine brain injuries/diseases could become significantly less of a problem for many seriously injured/disabled people.

This reminds me of how one cell phone designer was inspired by the old style flip communicators of the original Star Trek.

Science fiction, it seems, always become science fact, it's just a matter of time.
