It works
It took about three hours to get it all going which seemed a bad omen, but all is now well in space... i may even try to get my old account going again after chrimbo, who knows.. i have the obligatory Drakes and Raven plus a Rok (sp?) and host of smaller ships, plus skills and ISK.

I think i have a lot of reading to do now, and feel i'll play the game somewhat meaner once i get going properly.

Thanks for adding another monkey to my back

I have an in active account. I played it but realised you cant do much in the game unless in larger space guild as lone ships are easy targets. Seems designed to encourage non solo play

Hmm so thats what the walking around space stations expansion looks like.

I started around 2004 i think it was, played for a few months then stopped, then came back around the time of Revelations 2 expansion then finally stopped again around the time they did the faction warfare addon Empyrean Age I think it was, played through that expansions release for a few weeks then gave in (the faction fighting was fun but got kinda old quick).

Sorta stopped around that time since I basically ran level 4 missions all day to buy GTC's to play more to get more GTC
not a good thing to waste time doing (didnt help they stopped selling 60 day cards which let me spread out my isk farming a little so i could enjoy myself more), actually had a personal manufacturing and research base going in 0.5 space but damn if it wasnt annoyingly long and tedious. I guess I wanted to be independent in a game that forced you to either join a corp or go pirate as a lone wolf, and unfortunately I had neither the skills or the connections(desires) for either.

Left it with Battle Ship lvl 5 on the training queue... unfortunately they halted the ability for your character to train with an inactive account a short while after so I dont think it ever finished. Not that it matters dont think ill ever go back.

My nicely tricked out Caldari Navy battleship and Amar Curse still sits to this day in a hanger in Minmatar space (damned if i remember the system).

Best ship I ever ran with though was my Minmatar Stealth Bomber (lost it only once)... some of the places I tried getting into with that thing made my hair stand on end (and my head full of lvl 5 implants twitch in fear, couldnt be bothered running my clones since I couldnt be bothered waiting on the body swap times). Nothing like watching from a distance as pirates blast poor saps at gates or isk farming convoys all the while doing my best not to get picked up myself and trying to slip by em and back to safer space during the confusion.

It was a good game, but I think if you play it you gotta stay with it for the long haul or its not really worth it, especially if your more of a solo player.

That being said I can always say i was there during the Bootini incident to witness the storm... boy was that a nightmare for alot of people (thankfully my PC couldn't run the new engine so it didnt affect me since the issue was fixed by the time I switched to the new client)

Personally ive finally lost the drive for MMO's... which in my opinion is a good thing.

Oh and my characters name was Dapper Danny, spent alot of time in the rookie Minmitar channel since I didnt start my own corp (for building my base) until a month or so before i stopped playing, game definitely got smaller once I left the Rookie corp
which reduced my interest in it... some of the comments you'd get from people seeing someone with a whole lot of months on their play time still in the rookie corp was pricless but they where fun times shepherding and giving guidance to young Minmatar warriors.

Depends on your skills that you have trained, and what it is you like to do.

I've soloed quite a bit, and there were many times that it felt like I could not do something unless with a lot of other people. But as my toon gained more and more skills, I became better at what I can do, and eventually was able to do many things all on my own with no one's help.

There are still many things that you can't do alone, or were intended for groups as CCP designed them that way:
Level 5 missions (you can solo them, but mostly only if you blitz them).
Incursions
Operating a POS in Worm Hole space (not impossible......but very hard to do all by yourself).

Those are just an example of a few.

It's true: the less training you have, the harder things are.

I took about a 1 year break from Eve, but came back. I think CCP holds on to your characters and stuff for up to 2 years inactive before they delete everything. I was tired, bored and didn't want to sit there and grind missions for PLEX.

But my friend talked me into coming back (didn't take much to talk me into it), and there was all my stuff (had over 1.5 billion isk in ships, and 585 million sitting in my wallet).

CCP has this thing where you can reactivate your account for 4 hours at no cost to you, and you can apply a PLEX if you want. I sold a few ships, and applied a PLEX. Played for a month and had earned over 3 billion, mission running, mining and just selling things on the market.

I also noticed how close I was to a lot of things for training to level 5, grit my teeth and did it.

Now I'm making about 800 million a week.....just mission running alone, by myself. A PLEX runs about 580 million. So for me it works out to: mission grind for a week, and I have more than enough to buy a PLEX to keep playing. The other 3 weeks in the month I can do whatever I want: scan down sites or Worm Holes, work them, research BP's and make things to sell, go exploring in my covert ops ship (Buzzard) (which is a lot of fun to jump into WH space, find a Care Bear POS, and start talking to them in the local channel.....they freak out everytime, MWAHAHAHHA).

I dont think they delete characters at all, Ive been out of the game at least 3 years now and still get emails saying Dapper Danny is ready and waiting to get back into the pod.

580 for a month plex, hmmm that used to get you a 60day gtm (I think?). Then again they may have upped the isk a little on some things. I used to run lvl4's in 0.5 (sometimes 0.4 if it was one close to my home system and I knew it was fairly safe) and would make about 5 mill a misson or so from salvagable material (on average I think it was about 15 or so mill in an hour of play when you took off repair costs, ammo, completing the mission heading back grabbing my salvager etc, ran a Caldari Navy raven which let me pretty much tear most missions apart fairly beneficently, no where near the 30mill and hour some people boasted as normal)... took me id say up to 2 weeks of playing 5-6 hours a day to get enough for a 60day gtm, and in the end id break even... i was hardly a good player
so that was most likely my main problem, running lvl4's that much though really became boring and I liked running treasure hunting(?) missions but usually didnt get all that much from them.

Lot of things have changed in the 3 years since you played (and many things stayed the same, heh).

CCP introduced a new ship called the Noctis. It's a dedicated salvaging ship, runs about 60 million for one. It has 8 high slots, so you can fit 4 tractor beams and 4 salvagers on her, and you can fit a Microwarp Drive. She comes with like a 3,000 m3 cargo hold.

So say you get the level 4 mission Blockade, where you get wave after wave of ships. Once you're done and turn it in, you can warp back in your Noctis and salvage the whole room in about 10 minutes.

The Angel Extravaganza lvl 4 nets me about 71 million in loot and salvage alone.

Oh! And you can train your alts now if you have any at the same time as your character plays. Of course you have to use a plex to do this though, heh.

We also have Incursions now. Sansha incursions into high sec. Takes fleets of players to fleet up and get rid of them, and the AI for them are smart. They are tanked and fitted just like players doing PVP, so jumping in a mission running ship and trying to go after them will get you killed quickly. The incursions tend to last several days, and involve several systems at one time.

Ice fields are gone now. Rather they are no longer always there. Instead, they randomly spawn now, so no one is farming them anymore. Of course they also changed how a POS is fueled. You no longer have to figure out how much Heavy Water, Ice Product, Uranium, Robotics, etc, etc. It's all contained in a "Fuel Block" now that you buy.

Jumping from system to system has a cool looking animation now........and that's all in the last 3 years, heh. They are fixing to change things again next with with Rubicon.

Another interesting thing about eve and its plex system, you can buy a a GTC (game time code for 2 months) for around 30 bucks when you put it in the game you can either use 2 months of time directly or split into two plex. you can then pay for you month and sell the other plex on the in game market for X hundred million.

what this means to newer players, is the ability to (and a cheap cost) to have a large in game amount of money to invest in things like minerals or blue prints. Steady flow money once setup ingame, once it reaches an amount per months of the plex on the market, you can now start paying your game time with ingame money and never have to actually pay to play!!!!

Now it will take you 6 months of normal play before you have the skill and knowledge and basic resources to make it work.

Before the plex system buying isk from non official sources would get you a warning (and the isk you bought destroyed, if you already spent it, your wallet goes negative and this is very very bad)) then if you did it again a ban.

EvE, while skills are based on long term play time, actually "grinding for money" takes actual ingame time some people simply buy plexes to sell ingame for their cash - which makes sense since an extra hour or two at work = a plex which = many many "grinding" hours. This option has opened the game to a crowd that was previously a bit tight for free time to enjoy the game.

Personally i prefer to make in game money and pay for my subscription.

This is my son's favorite game. He plays it because it is perpetual. He is gifted when it comes to computers in general I believe and games like Diablo and whatnot that you can beat, he generally beats within 1 to 5 days from first playing the game... which leaves him bored and seeking another game to play.

Then eve came along and you just play and play... he was in just for that. He loves this game!

If your son is under 18, be warned there is much foul language and inappropriate links/pics etc in the public channels.

Also make sure he is prepared for back stabbers, thief's and scams.

EvE is full of smart players who have a wicked side!

I got ganked while mining the other night. Lost my 170 million ISK Mackinaw.

But it was entirely my fault: I didn't have it tanked correctly, had left my Hobgoblin T2's out, was sitting still and had stepped away from the computer.

Didn't get mad (you loose ships in Eve). Just annoyed.

So I went and got my Skiff, tanked it to 105,000 EHP and went back to mining. The gankers showed back up. Turned around and left.

So even a veteran player like me screws up after all this time. All part of the game.

I've spent a goodly part of the last 3 days playing, and after a chat with a GM i learned that they do not delete old accounts.

It's sadly become unplayable for though, as my pc only really exists to read/post stuff now and is long overdue for a major overhaul if i'm to play effectively.

Lost 2 destroyers yesterday simply due to it all hanging up and freezing in missions with lots of enemies/structures etc. Bleh.

So

I'm updating my PC
My GF's house mate has a room piled high full of computer spares just mouldering away. Wewt!
