Hey guys so basically I have started to realise how bad some of the necessities we need are actually for you!

So I probably am better off just getting organic alternatives but I really do want to start making some of these things for myself, using goats milk for soaps etc.

I would really like if some people could share methods/recipes they have found, I will be remaking a lot of things as I do not work and really like to grow organic vegetables and plants.

Thank you xx

Toothpaste is simple, just buy baking soda. It is actually far better than toothpaste.

For deodorant again, use baking soda and cornstarch. If you want to get real fancy add coconut oil and lavender.

In regard to soap here's a simple recipe.www.wikihow.com... I always use lye for soap as well but it's very dangerous so just watch out.

24 ounces of coconut oil.
38 ounces of vegetable shortening.
24 ounces of olive oil.
12 ounces sodium hydroxide, or lye.
32 ounces spring or distilled water.
4 ounces of your favorite essential oil, such as peppermint, lemon, rose or lavender.

What % is the sodium hydroxide? Is it the liquid form that you use?

Beads and you want to make sure it's 97-100%.

Edit:

Here's some that's 99% from Amazon. I haven't made soap in years and haven't used this brand so if anyone tries it let me know.

Baking soda and vinegar are all you need! Both clean and deodorize. Add in some apple cidar vinegar for added conditioning, if you want (hair and skin).

That is true.

Really all one needs is those two items. Your hair naturally stops being as greasy once you aren't over shampooing.

For creams, you can't beat adding Jojoba Esters for a non-waxy and creamy texture that will not break down, and is 100% natural.

Olive oil makes an excellent conditioner, just use it before you shampoo. It also works great as an overall moisturizer.

Yep! I'm going on three years or so since I've used shampoo or conditioner! My hair is the healthiest it's been in my life, that I can remember.

My only shame in that regard is that I still dye my hair to cover the silvers (40 is too young, gosh!). However, that dye stays in weeks or months longer than it would were I washing my hair conventionally.

I see a lot of people using rubbing alcohol to wash their hands and as a deodorant. They sell bottles like hot cakes in the Philippines which is unusual from a foreign point of view. I read that it's bad for your body but they seem to live by it haha

Its is bad because it drys the skin, by evaporation and kills all bacteria (good and bad). Most man have learned the hard way not to use alcohol based aftershave, the burning is the lesser of the issues it creates...

I may make some of these, thanks. I usually use Dr. Bonner's stuff but they have made the soap bars smaller and both the soap and shampoo more expensive. Time to improvise. Thanks for the thread!

Yeah, the burning isn't as terrible as what I thought it would be. I saw people using rubbing alcohol on their hands and on wounds etc... It was a culture shock because I'm used to hydrogen peroxide for infection prevention. But when I tried alcohol just for the fun of it, it didn't burn as much as I remember it as a kid. I thought it would be the daddy of all pain but it's maybe a 1/10 as far as pain goes, even on the open wound that I had. It's a bad idea to use that but I thought why not try it just for kicks? (There goes my maso side... lol)

Anyhow, another thing that can be done to clean teeth is baking soda, water and strawberry. The strawberry is because baking soda and water tastes really bad but if you use strawberry it's not that bad at all. It helps significantly. I did it for 2-weeks, worked like a charm. I stopped doing it because I got teeth whitening mouthwash which made it even whiter.

And for those saying not to shampoo, that's a terrible thing to do. First, your hair looks awfully greasy and if you naturally have greasy hair, your face will be a pimple battlefield. Pimples are a sign of bad hygiene as well so it'll be harder to find mates with a battlefield face. Washing your hair also gets rid of pollutants from the air. If you live in the city for example you shouldn't go a day without washing your hair with both shampoo and conditioner because the pollutants (whatever it may be that you came in contact with) will get absorbed into your scalp and eventually cause health problems including graying of hair and baldness. In fact, those that live in a city are found to have more mercury in their system than they should. I don't have the exact article that I read from but you can learn more about pollutants on this website: www.epa.gov...

There are a lot of scientific journals about whether or not it's good to wash your hair with shampoo and it turns out that it's much healthier to shampoo and conditioner however these claims are made on certain types of shampoo and conditioners. I don't have the link on top of my head but I think it had to do on whether it had sulfate or not? Another important thing to do is to switch from the time to time how you wash your hair. I think once a week you should wash with conditioner first. Forgot the exact reasons, had to do with dry hair vs greasy etc etc..

I really wish I could find these articles. Either way, just because there are chemicals in something, it doesn't automatically mean it's a bad thing. But sometimes even if it is slightly bad, it can be better than the alternative such as keeping pollutants in your hair. The "feel good" feeling is placebo just like after getting an enema. You don't really feel like you have less toxins because toxins is a made up word because they simply don't exist. This is the health & wellness section which is why I'm saying this, the new age fad is hurting / killing people. Be very cautious.

thanks a lot for replying to my thread, I am making a health and natural remedies, cooking, health, detox all sorts of things for christmas,

With the strawberry tooth paste could you tell me how to make it maybe in a little recipe/method style. and how it can be stored and how long you would keep it for etc.

Yeah I personally do not have oily hair, I use shampoo probably once every 4-6 months so I personally would not mind having a natural organic way I can do so once a week or something just so I know its healthy and clean.

I am also growing an organic garden so I also would not mind growing lots of plants that can be beneficial and learn how to make different things liker herbal teas and whatever lots of stuff haha, and I guess you could say the book for her christmas present is much for myself too!

It depends on the concentration, they add distiled water in some (even to hydrogen peroxide) see concentration on the bottle...

After I wrote the last post it came to me that the level o humidity in Asia is generally higher that in most of Europe (except North and the UK/Ireland Island) and in general if you are not in the coast it fluctuates more or less like in the US without so many extremes) so for Westerners the experience may not be the same also because of that...

Note also that alcohol is simpler to produce than hydrogen peroxide (especially if one has an industry of spirits or that generates byproducts that can be used, like sugar cane processing, excess or bad rice etc all can be fermented into alcohol).

Pimples are a sign of bad hygiene

No its not... Generally speaking it is more about nutrition and hormonal imbalance that hygiene...

graying of hair

Is rarely a sign of pollutants, it may be due to use of coloring or exposure to high temperatures and salt (even sweat will do it) and a possible sign of stress... It may be genetic often appear at 14-16 to a minority of people.

Now other changes of color may be to pollutants but this will be changes in color in the same air strand or a random fluctuation in color (but not gray, note that gray is different from white air)...
