You know what the worst part is??
Some poor old person probably got the same one and those scammers have their info. I feel bad for people like that.

Ah the old "419" fraud. You'd be surprised by how many people actually fall for these scams (or maybe not). We get calls all the time.

Very hard to catch these guys. Practically impossible.

You're sure right on how many fall for it. My neighbor fell for a variation with a 'girlfriend' in Nigeria. He was actually talking crazy about going over there to get his money back once he realized how totally they'd taken him. I managed to convince him all he'd do is get killed in a far away land by any such foolishness.

Still, while researching what he'd been ripped off by, I'd discovered the FBI has at least one agent assigned 100% full time, to do nothing but track, record and try to do something about these scams for the billion dollar business they represent to the scammers. It actually DID shock me (a rare thing) to see how many each year read those and DO respond for the hope of ill gotten gain.

In some ways, it's hard to feel bad for many too, for that reason. They need to cooperate to get screwed that badly.

Nothing, they only had my name, email address, and house address. They wouldn't of known anything else. It all came about when I had an inbox on a website called MOCOSPACE, with a (for me at the time) believable story that they wanted to use my pictures in a magazine, I agreed, and they sent me a cheque for £3000. I received it but then I realized I'm being duped (the cheque looked dodgy to me), so I took it to a place called Cash Converter, who told me to come back in a hour to collect my money, when I did, police came up and arrested me for trying to cash a fraudulent cheque.

Embarrassing but true story.

i know this has come as a late reply but, erm if you knew the cheque looked dodgy why did you take it to C C then

I had an ex that fell for a scam like this, even when I TOLD her it was a scam, didnt want to believe me, til she got the check and deposited it, then called me panicking that the police were gonna arrest her for fraud
