Congressional Republicans and some Democrats are pushing to give individuals more time to sign up for Obamacare after major technical problems have stymied enrollment. But insurers say the consequences of such a move would be heavy.

Under the current plan, open enrollment will end March 31, allowing insurers to base their 2015 rates on the risk pool of their 2014 enrollees. If the mandate is delayed and that risk pool is made up of mostly older, unhealthy people, insurers will jack up their premiums.

Let the fun begin! We made our bed, now we must sleep in it.

What you don't realize is that if the whole thing is scrapped, rates will sky-rocket..with certaintity.

We need to fix it or go single payer...those are the options.

Rates are already set to raise for the next 10 yrs thanks to Obamacare. This is SPIN put out by the insurance companies who are already raking in record profits thanks to Obamacare. They did after all write the bill.

Ah yes the single payer solution. What most liberals these days are saying was the ultimate goal of Obamacare. Yet they fail to realize that this is a classic example of the ends justifying the means. Create an unsustainable "solution" to the healthcare problem that makes more people worse off than before that is destined to crash. Then when it does crash, come forward with your real solution and look like the savior to your self-orchestrated problem.

No offense, but can't take posts seriously that begin this way.

Before Obamacare...we were #1 in healthcare costs on the globe by almost double the next highest cost nation...healthcare was the #1 cause of personal bankruptcy for over a decade, the #1 driver of both personal and federal debt and we rank #37 for healthcare outcome...Average Insurance costs went from 4k in 1990 to 7k in 2000 to 15k 2009..

The USA healthcare system is screwed up...we can fix Obamacare or go Single Payer..but going backwards is not an option...It's not an ideological debate anymore.

And the concept of Private vs. Government Healthcare fails IMO...HALF of all health insurance policies were government backed pre-obamacare, Gov. policies represented the MAJORITY of private Insurers profits.
