Ok, let's go off the left field on this one. First, you cannot visit the White House which I feel is simply ridiculous. Closing off the US property to its private citizens is just wrong in my eyes but I have always wondered if it was a start to something else.

Now, the government wants to barricade and shut down.

Johnson did say the NPS is taking proactive measures to particularly close off the monuments.

“We will be barricading a lot of them,” she said. “The Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson, MLK, World War II. We will be turning off the fountains.”

They are taking away all of the things that are symbols of this country. To me, it just seems a bit odd. They do not have the money to 'leave" them open but they have the money to keep them patrolled...why?

Despite this, however, Johnson said police would still continue to stand guard and patrol the monuments.

This would also be a great opportunity for a domestic terror attack to occur when it is empty to 'reduce casualty" but create the effect. We are broke, broken and now we need more control..

Just a few thoughts to chew on...

You know the really bad part is that I think much of this has happened, at the start of each thing, with good intentions too. Like the White House. That came just after the Anthrax scare with real weapons grade Anthrax being sent in the mail. Well, if someone had a viable vaccine to it, they could have taken a White House tour while dribbling fairy dust down their paint leg as they walked through the place. We'd have a White House you could see but possibly not touch again for a very long time. The Russians proved...literally by accident....how nasty Anthrax is when delivered by design.

(I'd read about the White House concern in a newspaper of all places...at around that time. The enemy doesn't even need creative thinkers. Just a USA Today subscription.. lol...laugh or cry)

Then Bush got comfy with the idea that it was HIS house while he was there, anyway, so phooey on anything but exceptional tours. Now I think Obama and Michelle allow some school tours and such by appointment. I think I'd read something about limited special access like that these days. Same with the barricades.... It made sense at the time. The North African Embassy bombings and some other similar Vehicle IED's put the cherry on that cupcake.

Look what it has done to us though? You're right. We've become like Israel in some ways. An armed camp ..with less sense of humor.

After Lincoln's statue was not too long ago vandalized, I can understanding wanting to protect them.

There was also an ancient egyptian temple that was vandalized by a teenage tourist..

I don't like the idea of it but I do have a lot of respect for the history of these things.

Once upon a time, they'd just assign more cops to walk the area and perhaps leave one going blind on a bank of camera monitors to direct the others where needed. Now, it's blocked off, signed off and we're treated like the enemy.

I certainly see the OPs point and fear has gotten to ridiculous levels in our nation. Fear of everything, runs everything.

This happened before in 1995 , and today , History is reflecting itself.
The issues at the time were The Budget and Public Health. Sound familiar?
Bill Clinton was President, and The Economy was Rockin!
National Parks and many other Public Access sites were closed.
I remember it really being difficult for many, many Government workers.
The regular folks doing the daily grind.

Yet Congress received Their Paychecks on Time.
Congress is provided The Best Healthcare,Pension,Security, and a Paycheck Automatically.
Courtesy of The United States Taxpayer.
So, just as then as is now,
they play their little Tit for Tat boarding school games and bow to their Lobbiests (PAYING Constituents).
While the rest of U.S. Burn , and suffer the consequences.

To be fair, there are MANY Members of Congress who work Very Hard for the American People.
It is very troubling however that there are those who put "Special Interests" before the Common
Good . It is Particularly Troubling that Foreign Interests at times take presidence before the well being of
The American Citizens. These decisions are unacceptable and will eventually result in Dire Consequences.

This Repetitive Behavior is and Outrage and Disgrace to the Reputation of
The Citizens of The United States of America and our Presence around The World.

Someone remembers the same old song and dance in 95.

And as far as who made it his house, I would have to say it was ol Bill with the late night BJ's and Big Macs...no respect for the office.

This however seems different. Like it is supposed to happen this way. Spending is out of control and the GAO is, well, not doing its job.

The daily treasury statement has remained unchanged for months and NOBODY says anything. They can bring up Cruz and Green Eggs and Ham but nothing about debt. There has not been an annual budget approved by Congress since 2009 .WTF folks???
