Just came across my feed and looking for more information at the moment.

Veterans Today

now the police may not need to fear scrutiny anymore, because Apple has recently patented a piece of technology that would allow the authorities and police to block data transmission, including video and photos, whenever they like. All they need to do is decide that a public gathering or venue is deemed “sensitive” and needs to be protected from externalities. In this case Apple will enable them to switch off all its gear. The developers insist that the affected locations are normally cinemas, theaters and concert grounds, but Apple admits it could also be used in covert police or government operations that may need complete “blackout” conditions.

Interestingly this was first reported as of September 4, 2012???
ZDNET points to U.S. Patent No. 8,254,902

Apparatus and methods for changing one or more functional or operational aspects of a wireless device, such as upon the occurrence of a certain event. In one embodiment, the event comprises detecting that the wireless device is within range of one or more other devices. In another variant, the event comprises the wireless device associating with a certain access point. In this manner, various aspects of device functionality may be enabled or restricted (device "policies"). This policy enforcement capability is useful for a variety of reasons, including for example to disable noise and/or light emanating from wireless devices (such as at a movie theater), for preventing wireless devices from communicating with other wireless devices (such as in academic settings), and for forcing certain electronic devices to enter "sleep mode" when entering a sensitive area.

I bet TPTB will enjoy the fact that they can stop photos and videos. That way they can do what ever they want and claim the witness are lunatics.

I agree boycott apple.

Android cannot follow. We have access to the hardware level. Unlike apple.

But what people are not seeing here, is that if this is true (I dispute it as I've not looked into it properly, but at face value, accept the premise) that it implies that people with ill intent will also be able to disable apple products.

Crims come along to a mall, disable the phones, no one can call, no one can record, etc etc.

Nah I can't see this working. I can't see it being implemented. And if it is, I see it being utterly pointless to the point of never being implemented as what is the point ot targeting iphones, when barry's digital camera is not affected. bobs nokia is not affected.

Silly.

100 years ago, when finger printing was invented, it had the crooks sweating.

Now everyone is jumping at shadows. take a step back and just think about things, stop reacting, start responding... sheesh.

The FBI has been turning on mics since like 2006. Turning them off again is just a given.

Evidence gathering in picture and video format is the best tool the general population ever had against brutality from any form of authority.

I am 100% certain that the police is more careful about what they do now with everyone video tapping them.

Anyhow, if anyone is gullible enough to pay double the price for an electrical devices that doesn't beat the competition, chances are, they wouldn't care that their rights taken away for their "safety".

(Sorry for the generalization that may not apply to everyone)

Before I get asked for proof

news.cnet.com...

If they could turn on a mic, they could turn on a camera. If they could turn them both on then they could turn them both off. This article is just about the old news that apple was enabling the disabling of these functions at places like sporting events or concerts.

tl;dr been doing it for years, its just in the hands of more people now

Actually the iPhone is smoking the competition. iPhone A7 Chip Benchmarks: Forget the Specs, It Blows Everything Away

We just ran benchmarks on Apple's new iPhone 5S, revealing that, yup, this is the dopest smartphone silicon ever made. This thing freaking churns, crushing every other smartphone out there on both computational power and graphics. But if you look at common specs like core-count and clock speed for the hardware, you'd never know it.

Iphone locked up 4 times just scrolling. /iphone

I only watched the 2nd video and only to 1:40 or so. Sorry. Not being able to scroll properly isnt blowing away anything. The other phone looked a lot smoother in scrolling too.

Damn that's scary. Link me to the source of this so I can show it to others. Make sure it's in proper english and of sound logic, so that I don't have to explain it in great detail.

thanks!

You did just that. Cheers!

Remove the sim card?

no cell number, no cell access.

I'm not sure with apple though as they are proprietary. mini sim cards, etc.

OP stated that wifi was being used, cellular connection is completely different and would require the cops to know the number of each phone in the vicinity.
