We were savages. We still are.

I've been reading a lot of history lately, and the only conclusion that I can reach is that we are a savage species.

Will this ever change? In my opinion, it would take a miracle.

Not all of our species were savages, but some of the people in charge coerced us to be savage. You can't state everyone is the same, many people are far from savage. Many people are meek and just want to get through life and enjoy the experience a little. They are forced to work for many years just to live in this world though.

We are indeed. Though we have great potential for love and peace, I do not believe we will see any changes in our time or our children's or even grandchildren's time.

When I think of things like hospitals making a profit on the sick and dying, wars and blood shed, greed and power, I become jaded and lose hope for mankind. Yes there are the meek, the innocent, the kind, loving and compassionate souls who reside here, but our world is in chaos.

Anyone who reads history and news would probably arrive to the same conclusion you have. But consider your sources. History and news are pimped by the sickest individuals society has to offer. They're always telling the story of the millions of people killing and dying, never to the billions of people living and procreating. This is such a narrow view of humanity. There are so many more examples of human compassion across the globe.

I don't deny or turn a blind eye to the evil, immoral acts that are done every day. I'm just quick to remind myself that good, beautiful acts outnumber these by at least 10 to 1.

The real question is, why are the worst among us the most 'newsworthy' while the good accomplished in the world goes unrewarded? Because people feel better about themselves when they see someone causing harm to themselves or others, and then they feel inferior or unworthy when they see someone acting selflessly.

Real healers did not get paid much for their services. Medicine today is a business, the caduceus is the staff of Hermes, the staff of commerce not the staff of medicine. It is also referred to as the staff of deceit. Some doctors are good but most did not ever learn the cures or ways to avoid disease, they learned to treat diseases using what Pharma companies supply them with. That is the American way. Since we have less factories, we need more medical jobs. Even agriculture is done utilizing less labor today.

There is the good ol Yin and Yang.I freely claim to be half evil.I have the advantage of knowing it.
I feel sorry for those who don't.It is a human trait,so is compassion.

We were savages, and we are still savages, and there are a great many positives to that duality. For a start, our species started out in this world, often surrounded by megafauna, animals so large and powerful that their mere presence represented a threat to the physical survival of entire social groups. It was only our cunning and savagery that allowed our relatively small, weak bodies, to perform the feats necessary in order to overcome much larger animals, herbivorous and carnivorous alike, and claim dominion over the world.

At the same time, groups of protohumans, and later on, proper human beings, would fight over the prime hunting and gathering grounds, and the most capable killers and most savage tribes would prevail, and have the fullest bags of herbs, skins, meat, and other resources.

After a time , mankind became pretentious and grandiose in his opinion of himself, and so were spawned vast empires, forged from the blood and bones of those who allied themselves poorly, or knew no warcraft, or at least too little. Mankind became his own most bitter enemy, because there were no longer significant threats to an individual of our species from outside our species. Savagery became a way of life amongst our kin, and genocide became a tool of conquest, rather than a necessary method of survival.

And even now, when war is mostly fought at a distance, has only any honour or heroism as an exception, rather than as a rule, where a soldier could kill hundreds of men and never have to get within ten feet of the sprays of blood, and showers of pulverised bone that he deals his fellow man, it will be savages who survive the calamities which befall this species. The ability to balance a bank account is not going to save lives when the crap hits the rotary air flow regulator, and nor will our mobile phones, or our advertising executives.

It will be the psychotic ape in every one of us, demanding we arm ourselves with sharp things and return to the woods and the fields, and hunt the old prey, not to mention kill anything that stands between ourselves and survival, which will keep our species alive in times of deep strife. It has ever been thus, and so it shall remain until the sky turns to fire and the earth is rent in twain in a final and total manifestation of oblivion.

What's wrong with savagery? We're self-taming beasts; civilized creatures of nature. You cannot escape the darkness.

It is what it is.
Humanity will be whatever it will be.

Trying to force "change" is failure because reality will always be the victor.

Focus on your own life by focusing on what you like and prefer instead of trying to change everyone else's (humanity's) life, then you will be happier.

So what did you think of humanity before? Brainwashed by the masses to believe humanity has answers for everything I assume, just one peon of many to keep the illusions real because otherwise people might actually start to think for themselves, create selfreliance and that would be the end of a society where we all rely on eachother and have leverage that way so people can be controlled.

History is fascinating, it puts it all in the proper perspective of who is right and who is wrong, who started what and why.

Meh. We're no worse than any other species. Or better.

Humans are really just tinkered with chimps, given a slightly larger brain capacity and less hair. Probably designed for slave labor by some long dead/disinterested alien race.

The violent, savage, greedy chimp core is still there, though, as is observable by how humans interact on a daily basis with one another when looking closely, and readily evident when there are no consequences to be had for ones actions (which is where the saying "power corrupts" comes from, but the saying is not that accurate. Power doesnt corrupt, nor does lack of consequences, but, lack of consequences (usually associated with power) brings out the true individual from within, unbound by laws, and fear of retribution).

Only the strong survive. If you have a thin skull a little slip could be the end of you. If you have big hard hands or a decent grip and a rock you can batter other meat puppets. Humans though conscience and empathetic and loving are prone to violence and furious anger. I can't imagine our ingrained instincts of self preservation will become a vestigial tail. Not all too long ago man was literally slaying beasts and were regularly under attack from the sky land and sea from creatures that make anything we have today look like pets. The world was like an 80s piece of fantasy art and metal as all hell.

I hate to be so agreeable, but I have to go along with the majority here. We are pretty much savages. Actually, we’re not that far removed from the Stone Age.

The part that concerns me most is that we’re basically just glorified chimps sitting on an arsenal of hydrogen bombs. I just hope we can control our animal instincts long enough to evolve out of them. I have my doubts on that score...

Course were savage how else would we have been able to survive. Think about it cultures religions and the most succesful army's in history didn't win through fair tactics. We take what we can through sheer savagery. Dont feel bad it's a normal mindset.

We are a paradox. Noble savages.

In truth mankind is the worst thing our planet has witnessed. An animal will kill for defense or for food or even continuation of a species. Mankind kills for pleasure. We perfected the art of killing our fellow man. War.

Yet we build monuments, literature, and art beyond the capabilities of any other beast.

And that is our nobility. We as individuals can tame ourselves to a certain extent. As long as our environment is safe and secure we project the illusion of civilization. Take it away for a few meals and we revert back to our primal nature.

Mary Shelly defined man better than anyone else I have ever read and she was talking through the image of the monster at the time: I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.

As long as we are warm and fed we strive for perfection. Without those things we turn the world to dust and ash...............
