Its time to cease with all the Putin bashing. He's proven himself a world class leader as well as a prominent and well respected "leader of the free world" - a title once reserved for American presidents but Obama has seen to it that our reputation has greatly diminished in the eyes of most Americans and of most other nations.

Obama has proven himself no match for the likes of Vladimir Putin. Comparatively speaking Putin is the master and Obama is the bad student sent to 'reform school' for his inane and incorrigible behavior. This is slightly "tongue in cheek" but mostly very serious.

So please read the news article on Putin - you will be en-'lightened' - literally.

If you thought Russian President Vladimir Putin might be enjoying himself now that he has blocked the U.S. from carrying out air strikes in Syria, made U.S. President Barack Obama look weak and positioned himself as a global statesman and peacemaker, you could not be more right.

Putin made his annual appearance today at the Valdai Club, a gathering or about 200 academics and research analysts focused on Russia, and he had a ball. He cracked jokes all evening -- mostly poking fun at what he sees as Western hypocrisy, double standards and moral decay.

For example, when the legal troubles of Putin’s old friend, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, came up, he said: “Berlusconi is on trial now because he lives with women, but if he were a homosexual, they wouldn’t lay a finger on him.” That one got a lot of laughs.

More seriously, Putin defended a recent law against promoting homosexuality in Russia, arguing that this does not amount to discrimination or oppression, and noting that some U.S. states still have (disused) laws on the books that criminalize homosexuality. Russia should be allowed to make its own choices about what is right, he said. He also suggested gay marriage was just bad policy. “We are dying out. Europeans are dying out. Same sex marriages do not produce children,” he said, going on to ask whether Europeans really want to rely on immigration to boost their populations.

"We believe that it is natural and appropriate to defend those values. Any minority deserves respect for its distinctive identity, but the rights of the majority must not be questioned," Putin said during a meeting of the Valdai discussion club.

He believes, that Russia can't move forward without cultural and national self-determination. Otherwise the country won't be able to respond to external or internal challenges, can't be successful in global competition.

"Events that take place in the world represent one more serious challenge to the Russian identity. There are foreign policy and moral aspects to this. We have been able to see many Euro-Atlantic countries effectively embark on a path of renouncing their roots, including Christian values, which underlie Western civilization," Putin said.

"That involves the negation of moral principles and any traditional identity - national, cultural, religious, or even sexual," he said.

"Policies are pursued that put large families and same-sex partnerships in the same category, belief in God and belief in Satan. Excesses of political correctness reach the point where there are serious discussions on the registration of parties that have propaganda of pedophilia as their objective. People in many European countries are ashamed and afraid of speaking about their religion, holidays are abolished or given other names, names that shyly conceal the nature of those holidays, and aggressive attempts are made to force this model on the rest of the world," Putin said.

"This is a direct path to degradation and primitiveness, to deep demographic and moral crises," he said.

How long has this guy been around now? Holding on to power through suspicious means. First President, then Prime Minister, then President. Nothing short of being a dictator really.

I trust him no more than I trust Obama. The way Gays are being treated in Russia is despicable, people should be free to live their lives the way they wish, not have life choices thrust upon them.

The way he talks, he makes it sound like a large percentage of Europeans are Gay. This isn't the reason birth rates of Europeans are low and to suggest otherwise makes him look foolish imo, hardly the great statesmen he's being currently portrayed as.

Not sure gay Russians would agree with that (nor open-minded Russians).

For an iron fist leader that is allergic to shirts seems to sound about right though, your opinion that is.

IMHO Putin comes across as a deeply insecure person who has to constantly let the public see that he is "macho" who jails those who oppose him, wanting only his voice being heard.
He is ex-KGB. I'm sure he is aware of tactics to control and "influence" people.

As in Russia - right thinking and good living Americans (such as we Catholics, and other Christians) want NO part of it. We realize that its inimical to a right way of living and of being. Glad you mentioned it..........As regards the OP - An exact parallel can be drawn with respect to Putin's handling of the 'Gay issue' as with the 'Muslim Terror threat' in Russia. Putin is out to destroy the threat of terrorism in his nation while Obama promotes terrorism in his by means of the false flag "War On Terror".

When was religion ever banned in the U.S? It was in Russia under the Communists!!

There is a World of difference between telling someone how to behave and disagreeing with their opinions. Maybe you should re-read everything I have typed in this thread. I am not in a position to tell any Russian how to lead their life, nor would I want to.

However, I do have an opinion on Equality and that is what I was stating.

Also, what the OP is saying, hey im right about values and stuff, everyone should have my own values too. If not they a inmoral, and savages. Thats crazy. Putin is a dictator thats it. Maybe we can agree he has good skills, and is a "great" leader, meaning he knows how to control people and lead a country, which doesnt imply hes leading them towards a righteous end, but thats for another thread altogether.

I think you need to go and study some Soviet history beginning with the evils of Communism under Stalin hence Stalinism - why? Russia was notorious for having led the world in the strictest interpretation of murderous and evil communism ever devised - known to the world as Marxist/Leninism. There was nothing 'social' about it.

As far as Putin goes, he was put into power by a circle oligarchs not longer after the collapse of the Soviet Union, a period when there was extreme amounts of corruption and instability. Putin has certainly provided a large amount of much needed stability, however in Russia:

1. The lines between government and private corporations are often blurred.
2. The government has been centralizing power.
3. The gap between the rich and poor is large.
4. There is a certain lack of the freedom of the press.
5. There isn't enough political debate.




Many of the areas where Putin actually deserves praise (for example bringing stability to Russia) are specific to Russia since they don't affect the USA (for example).

I don't disagree with what you said about the Soviet Union, however attempting to apply that to Western Europe is simply absurd. Actually plenty of European countries are doing rather exceedingly well. Many of them are doing better than your own country.

The REPUBLICANS, in league with the leading CATHOLICS in America, along with the super American patriots in the Tea Party, will set things aright once again come 2014 by re-taking the Senate - then on to total victory in 2016 .......AMEN ..........God Bless America
