The brand new LRASM (Long Range Anti-Ship Missile) based on the AGM-158 JASSM-ER (Extended Range) missile was successfully tested at the Point Mugu range, in California, recently
The prototype of a stealth anti-ship missile was first tested on Aug. 27, 2013, even if DARPA released the news some days later.
Along with its ability to be launched from aircraft, the missile will be compatible with Mk41 Vertical Launch System used by surface warships and submarines.
The tripartite research is carried out together by DARPA, USAF and US Navy’s Office of Naval Research, with Lockheed Martin being the manufacturer of the weapon.
The rocket was tested using a Dyess Air Force B-one (“Bone”), from 337th Test and Evaluation Squadron.

Alright, a brand new shiny weapon for an enemy that doesnt exist.
How about helping some poor people or reducing spending and cutting taxes?
In September 2007, the Inspector General of the Justice Department reported that the Terrorist Screening Center (the FBI-administered organization that consolidates terrorist watch list information in the United States) had over 700,000 names in its database as of April 2007 - and that the list was growing by an average of over 20,000 records per month.

And Russia, and China are our best friends and would never dream of any kind of fight against us, right?

The first test flight of the LRASM anti-ship missile occurred on August 27th near Point Mugu. The missile is based on the AGM-158 JASSM-ER.
The missile flies initially at medium altitude, before it drops down to low altitude to drive into the target. It uses INS and GPS for initial navigation, and an IR seeker for pinpoint accuracy. The missile is reported to be highly jamming resistant and can operate in contested or degraded environments.
During this test the missile flew a programmed route until about halfway to the target, when it switched to an autonomous route using its own systems. There were three objects in the target area, it correctly identified the proper target, and hit it (an unmoving 80 meter vessel).
The missile is capable of either an air launch or launch from a MK41 VLS system used on ships and submarines.
