Delta Honor Guard

I found this video the other day, and decided to post it. The story about them is from 2010.

Delta Airlines employee Thomas Schenk, a baggage handler and military veteran started the Delta Honor Guard in 2005. After he left, Brian McConnell took over as coordinator. McConnell was raised in a military family, and his son served in Afghanistan. In 2009, he coordinated the Honor Guard ceremony for his father after he passed away.

When the Honor Guard was started, a veteran's group donated flags and other items. Delta has since paid for new flags, holsters for the flags, hats, a Delta Honor Guard Coin that is given to every escort to give to the family members (remains usually don't have family with them, but always have an escort), and a caisson shaped baggage cart, with the American flag as well as the all the service flags, and the POW/MIA flag painted on it. It is one of several carts in use to transport remains.

The Guard was doing between five and six ceremonies a week at Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta for both incoming and outgoing flights. They have since spread to Boston, Minneapolis, and Norfolk. Other airlines, such as American Airlines at Hartsfield-Jackson have started their own Honor Guard, and more were looking into starting one.

I never heard of this before until now. I'm surprised Delta Airlines PR isn't all over this and milking it for all its worth.

Its nice to see people paying respect to those who have paid the ulitimate price for this country.

I watched Glory Hounds last night, Absolutly amazing how dogs and the military handlers work together as one. Breathtaking videos. Sorry just had to add that bit about Glory Hounds

Military dogs are the forgotten service members, despite so many of them giving their lives to protect others. I'm always glad to see something that honors them.
