More and more people join the crowd as they push me towards the home of the village headman. I recognize the house — it’s the only one that has a garden with grass growing in it. They throw me to the ground. The village imam speaks to me: “I’ve been told you’ve insulted our Prophet. You know what happens to anyone who attacks the holy Prophet Mohammed. You can redeem yourself only by conversion or death.”

Three women accuse her of insulting the Prophet

“No, I don’t want to change my religion. But please believe me, I didn’t do what these women say, I didn’t insult your religion. Please have mercy on me.”

The qari is the local religious law keeper and passes judgement...He did give her a chance to convert to Islam which was nice of him....Reminds me of Rome and the Christians who became christen martyrs for refusing to recognize some emperor as a god.....

He turns on his heel and the angry crowd falls on me. I’m beaten with sticks and spat at. I think I’m going to die.

Lucky for her (?) the police van showed up and she was taken to a police station or she might have been beaten to death?
There is a crowd that has gathered at the police station that is chanting, " Death to the Christen"!

Police were not nice and well....read the full articel @ www.nypost.com...

Immediately after I’d protested my innocence I was manhandled into the police van and driven away. During the journey I passed out from pain and only came back to myself as we were arriving at Sheikhupura prison, where I was thrown into a cell.

She is in jail..... lucky for her (?) or she would probably already have suffered a quicker death....this way she will just starve to death and think about converting to Islam??.

Maybe she is well treated as other members who are jailed?? I dunno but from what I have heard unless you are rich the life expectancy is a Pakistan jail is 7 years...Maybe that is for men? Women are stronger or so the saying goes ...

That's nothing, in England the poor harassed and persecuted Muslims are tortured with images of Christ as Christmas decorations in shops etc.

In America you can be Muslim, blow something up and then regard imprisonment as 'persecution' and is willing to die for 'serving'; his God.

In Pakistan you can be accused of something you didn't do and die for it because over their Islam fears anything that questions it. This girl then, receives the highest accolades if she dies for doing nothing but 'being' Christian.

Now there is not much parallel between these two religions even though they both came from the same father. One speaks life and gives you choice and the judgment is not by humans and only after the flesh dies.

The other speaks death, demands you convert and makes judgment a manmade thing. Yuck, it's almost foul.

I think we need a new prophet.

A prophet to tell these guys that when you have to kill someone for contradicting your prophet, it makes your religion look fake as hell.

A prophet to remind them that the whole point is to get along with your fellow humans and stop killing them, because killing is, like, a sin, man, come on. What part of "love thy neighbour as thyself" translates to "kill any m**********r who doesn't agree with you"?

Wake up, Muslim brothers. You need to realise that you're not doing God's will in this. You're actually sinning in the highest degree. You're being controlled by hypocrites and psychopaths. You've become pawns in their power games.

So that's where some of the little playground bullies in Pakistan wound up. A bunch in the same area too. Now they are big adult bullies instead of insecure little punks who were still manageable on the playground.

I wouldn't call it religion as much as warped interpretation. TPTB wouldn't have to worry a thing about depopulating the Earth if Islam as a whole did this. They'd take a good 1/3rd of the world on the insult clause alone. lol.. (Some countries wouldn't have a Soul left after they got through the No Alcohol part..
)

Still, warped little tyrants use anything viable to justify cruelty to other people.

feeling insulted is a feeling of being spoken to or treated with disrespect and scorn..

feeling offended is a feeling of being upset or annoyed by something..

these fools have confused feeling offended with feeling insulted, and as a result have behaved insultingly to this poor woman, who did nothing except learn from a different book to theirs and meant no offence..

since when is feeling "offended" grounds for unlawful conduct? who the hell is this "prophet" she offended? and what the hell makes him one? tradition? lineage? if he were a real living prophet he wouldn't advocate his people behave in this manner..

"It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase..

'I am offended by that'..

Well? So f***ing what?” -stephen fry

Glass, if I could give you a million stars, I would. What you wrote hits the nail on the head 1,000%.
It's a shame people think they need to kill someone else because they don't follow their beliefs

If you believe that your religion is the Truth, why would you not be willing to die for it?

Speaking personally, were I presented with the ultimatum of "death" or "conversion," I would not even have to blink before making my decision. Such is the faith that I have in my spiritual beliefs.

I simply cannot understand people who are unwilling to die for a belief that they are unwilling to abandon. If you will not abandon it, yet you will not suffer for it, what does your belief actually mean to you?

What does belief mean as a whole, nothing whatsoever, so to die for it, is pretty useless.
She should not be facing death because she is christian, but then again, that is all what we can expect from religion because religion is everything but love and harmony.

bit strong don't you think, saying belief means nothing as a whole, so no point in dying for it? religion is not the same as faith, nor belief.. religion did not do this to this woman, people's misunderstanding of it did..

religion is a linguistic decsription of love and harmony, and it ain't the only one, the problem lies in people's misuse of religion as a verb instead of a noun or adjective.. "my god wants me to religiousify/save/convert/control you!" is how they think, how they're meant to think is more like "i've interpreted my religion to mean that i am justified by god in my actions when i am offended by another person's existence"..

I've recently heard of many debates that would make "evolutionary" predictions on the survival of certain cultural traits like language and religion.

For example, there's been debate on the the survival of African languages in SA, and some in government want forced interventions to teach African languages.
This is despite the fact that black politicians hardly use African languages themselves, and pre-1994 efforts to support African languages were seen as encouraging tribalism.
Lately they even want legislation to force all schools to keep learners until 5 in the evening just to learn an African language.
Mostly it's just a fantasy and stick to beat the "colonial" languages with, and most government schools can't even teach any language properly, nor supply the textbooks.
Although languages like isiZulu or isiXhosa still have millions of speakers, the way government has treated them means they will go extinct pretty soon, or become some mixed language.
It's hard to imagine, but even a slight movement towards bilingualism can cause language extinction over just a generation or two.

Similarly, Islam has a cultural strength over Christianity.

Firstly, Islam does not allow apostasy, so leaving the religion is difficult.

Secondly, it allows polygamy and encourages much faster population increases.

Thirdly, it restricts other religions and proselyting in its territories, while Western countries outside the "house of Islam" allow unrestricted Islamic freedom of religion.

All this means that Islamic religion and culture have a clear advantage over their rival faiths and secular humanism.

Currently Islam also has a major image problem (perhaps because of its very cultural advantages), so things could go either way.

Or, what the Christians did to those who followed other religious beliefs forcing everyone to believe in The Bible or else they would be killed.

iknowrite! talk about hypocracy!

it's been going on since before religion even became an abstract thing.. people will use whatever language is available to them to justify their emotions, but unless they learn to understand and control those emotions they'll forever be in this hell of murder and sin and treason and theft and abuse against those they inaccurately perceive as being under satan's control..

Somewhere i wrote that religion is the spiritual journey of the individual.
The true meaning of that word, meaning to see what is meaningful in live, the true religious mind is a sacred mind.

Religion is not the churches or mosks, the rituals, the robes, the symbols, religion is not following a doctrine which excludes, or even kill those who believe otherwise, it is not a teaching.

Religion as it is understood today is a teaching which has no meaning, it has lost all meaning.
If one is offended, it simply means one is not innocent.
The sacred mind which is the innocent mind cannot be insulted.

Christianity has been very violent in the past, but now we are secular, there is a separation between church and state, and most see the value of it.
Today there is Islam, which is spread, and jihadists fight for it, killing christians, killing buddhists, flying planes in buildings, blow up busses, stations, killing each other, islam seems to say, place a bomb on your body, go there and blow yourself up, you'll die a martyr and go to heaven.
How can this possibly have any meaning?

I've met a mother, her daughter is a bright girl who studied and became an antropologist.
She did talk to her mother about tribes she visited, how they had their own way of living, but the mother who is a christian felt that they needed to be saved by teaching them and convert them to christianity, otherwise they would go to hell.
This has destroyed the relation between her and her daugther because her daughter had a different view on this matter.

completely agree except religion is an equal measure of teaching and personal experience..

of course it has meaning my friend, if it didn't it couldn't be religion..

there is more than just islamic fundamentalists to be worried about.. any fundamentalist belief in a religion will produce the same results.. by this logic you could say christianity says the same as islam, as jesus died a martyr and went to heaven.. any fundamentalist will try to be their selected martyr..

exactly the problem with any kind of fundamentalist belief in any teaching, be it religious or scientific or philosophical or biological.. if her mother had studied anthropology alongside her daughter she would no doubt reason with her and agree, but the unfortunate position of taking only one religious source as genuine, to the exclusion of all others, is sadly unknowingly willfully ignorant.. a double ignorance in fact..

This is not unusual news. The power of religion is strong and often fear based. Highly religious individuals usually cannot see the wrong in their actions, which is why their intent must be forgiven. Seemingly irrational, the religious zealot is acting in accordance with their "higher self". They are blind to their own behavior as they are only able to reason within their mental box. Innocent children. We must learn to forgive for as we have all made heartless mistakes in the name of truth.
