Hi All. I've been lurking for some time now but finally decided to start contributing after seeing the recent thread on the whirlpool in the South Atlantic. I have a distant family connection to the disappearance of a ship off the Wild Coast of South Africa way back in 1909 and have been idly following threads and odd info which pop up from time to time about the SS Waratah One of my grandfathers aunts - a Mrs Ibbett - was a passenger and it's been a family mystery since then.

Anyway, I have an interest in things paranormal and mysterious although not a lot of strange goings-on in this corner of the world (unless you count what our government is doing) but look forward to making some contributions from the tip of Africa.

Bte there's a Lot more going on than you may think,at least out here in the Bush in Mpumalanga Province-i was born and raised in the Mother City, well a suburb, but i worked there in the city for years too,and even as a kid i would regularly take the train or bus in,and spend the day walking around.I've lived in Bellville,Green Point,Sea Point, worked in Stellenbosch,Wynberg, spent many sun-drenched says at Big Bay-i miss CT every day of my life, every single day-due to financial constraints+circumstance i have not been able to return for 18/19 years-and i feel the tug on my heart, every day,the longing to go back home.

Welcome Cape Town Mike from a fellow Capetonian!

Have fun on these boards... and keep your tin-foil hat securely pinned to your head 'cause it's a jungle out here...

Are you going to be making a thread about the ship that disappeared that you referenced in your OP? Sounds intriguing...

Welcome CTMike!

Looking forward to your threads and posts.

What better things to hear on a chilly, and rather spooky morning, than stories of dramatic tragedy at sea, and the paranormal?

There's a lot of interesting and mysterious things in SA that have never been discussed.

I don't think there was ever another country where so many were met die helm geboore (born with the caul).

And they were all Christian fundamentalists of some type - but boy are they all psychic!

A huge percentage of my female friends spent time in very historic houses in Stellenbosch and the Boland.
Beautiful by day, but at night your spine chills over.

And then one hears the stories of footsteps at night, and the apparitions standing over their beds ...

Just listening to people here makes any episode of A Haunting seem like kindergarten stories.

Ha - I had to chuckle when I read your post. So true! My granny has also been born 'met die helm'. She is a Christian Fundamentalist, but has told me some spine-chilling stories about all the ghosts that she encountered in hospital during her many years as a nurse. And her 'demonic encounter' during an ouija board session as a child. She is a strange one - she oftentimes preaches to me about her belief in Nibiru and the fact that the extra-terrestrials exist and have interfered with our human history. And she is not getting this stuff from me - I swear!!!

Just about every person I know that have grown up in a historic house or on a historic farm in SA has recounted to me some type of chilling childhood experience about night-time footsteps down the hall, unexplained sounds and music coming from the attic, and (the worse of all) spirits sitting down on the corner of their beds at night... AARGGHH!
