Australia sucks up ocean's waters

An interesting news item I came across, thought you might be interested.

Basically it states how Australia has been sucking up the oceans water.
The world's oceans have been rising in recent decades by around three millimetres every year.
But for an 18-month period beginning in 2010, the oceans mysteriously dropped by about seven millimetres, more than offsetting the annual rise, the study says.

I think this kind of makes sense. If the dry continents soak up the worlds ice melting, then what happens? Do they become tropical or sub tropical regions?

Not soaking up any melting ice but soaking up the heavy rainfall not allowing to flow into the ocean.

SO is this dry land absorbing it and not allowing evaporation either?

Or is it just that the rivers have dried out despite rainfall records?
